I have gotten 2 pieces of information lately from people who seem to know what they're talking about at least some of the time but I'm not sure if they're right or not, so here goes:

1. make cricket water for crickets (with the gel crystals) using gatorade instead of water to provide complete gutload/nutrition for the crickets

2. reptiles need some amount of grit/sand in their bellies to help digest their food just like birds do.

Any opinions?

Well, as far as the 'grit' question, since lizards don't have gizzards, why would they need it? Chickens need the grit so their gizzards will grind at the seeds. Geckos don't eat seeds, either.

Now for the Gatorade... here are the ingredients:

water, sucrose syrup, glucose-fructose syrup, citric acid, natural and artificial flavors, salt, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, ester gum, sucrose acetate isobutyrate, yellow 5.

Sounds like an awful lot of sugar to me... which is not a natural diet for any reptile.

agreed "grit" in a geckos diet could cause an impaction. and as for the gatorade cricket drink, just a plain old jar lid with water will suffice. Just remember crickets are not the smartest of insects and will drown in to deep of water.
