Mealworms in any form aren't a great idea. Do you have a local pet store with crickets? Or can someone get you back to ***** for them?

Why arent mealworms a great idea? I'm pretty sure the majority of breeders use them as a staple food source or mixed with other feeders.

I personally use both mealworms and dubia, along with some supers and wax everynow and then, and pinkies for the breeders when needed. Mealworms make up about 60-70% of their diet, dubia 25-30% and 5-10% other.

Do you mean like just dead mealworms or the ones that are baked n dried or what not? Either way, I would never feed mine that. They wouldn't even think about eating it.

If you wiggle them around with some tongs they may eat them. If that's all you have then try it. I don't recommend making his diet up on gooey dead mealworms (I know the product you're talking about). The problem I see with them is they must have preservatives in there to make them gooey and keep them from rotting, and that cannot be good for a leo, just like it's not good for people. Anything fresh is better than anything preserved and dead.

yeah i know i dont plan on making this his diet if i can find live mealworms thats great if not then i can go to live crickets if i absolutely have to lol but i would rather have him eating somthing for now then being hungry

I suggest ordering from somewhere online. There are lots of great mealworm suppliers that can have feeder insects shipped to you in just a few days, for MUCH better deals than you get in chain stores. Plus, they live longer than the ones from the stores, IMO. You never know just how long that plastic container has been sitting in that fridge...

If that's not possible, open your phonebook and look for a fishing supplies/tackle store. They usually always carry live worms.

My point being, you might as well just NOT feed anything until you can get live, GUTLOADED dusted insects.

You can't gutload a dead mealworm. You can try, it's just not possible. :) The animals are receiving nothing but chitin from the exoskeleton when they're not fed properly prior to usage.

The juicy crap in the can probably has some low quality vitamins sprinkled in there too.
Live is always the way to go. :)

it should be fine if you hand feed, or poke it on the ground, or use something thin like a twity tie peice to move it. my baby leos even attack the pooper scooper, and my toad gets fed all the dead bugs to him which seems to make him happy as the cat food he gets in his dish also and toads absorb toxins more than anything, so if he were going to be sick from them he wouldnt constantly be bright and singing away for a gf.

So your not gonna feed your gecko live food because you don't like crickets? I don't think that's fair. the canned stuff isn't good for your gecko like fresh gutloaded insects are! IMO
