Good choice, Where did you order yours? (just out of couriosity)

coastal =]

grboxa, i ordered a silkworm keeper too i hope it has a screen in it, the guy told me they make their own substrate with saliva and poo????

also, can i feed strictly silkies? My geckos wont touch meal worms to save their life (literally) and one of them seems so irritated with crickets while the other two love them.

your biggest concern with silkworms is moisture. they arent really good climbers so you can keep the top off if its high enough without worries...try not to close it especially with the food they eat which creates moisture already. i had alot die on me because there was to much. did you order silkworm food?, they only eat 'chow'(prepared food) and fresh mulberry leaves...I really hope you ordered small because these guys get big very fast if fed and if not fed they only last a week without food at MAX. and about the poo and saliva substrate :main_huh:...im not an expert at all but Ive been told that there very sensitive to bacteria so rolling around there own poo i'd say isnt a good substrate . putting them on a screen in a container thats high enough so u can let the cover off is your best bet...plus the poop dries out making it easy to 'sift' through. and YES silkworms are a great staple from what ive read/told and currently is my staple for my male and female. the male gained a great amount of weight from these silkies...quite expensive but pay off;...very low fat content with excellent protien/calcium and since there soft bodied very easily digestible. i cant stress enough to make sure theres no moisture in there container either good luck!

*edit* okay so im assuming the keeper has the food already in it like a kit?, or is it just a simple container.

About that whole poo thing as long as the poo dries up is shouldnt be much of a problem because wet /moist poo is there mold and bacteria generaly come from and since he only expects to have these for about 2 weeks and hes not breeding them he shudnt have to worry about keeping it supper clean
