Feeding Schedule

Hello,

My oldest Leo is about 1.5 years old, although I have only had him for a couple of months. It's a male Co-Dominate Snow, he weighs over 80g and is very friendly. He has been eating very regularly since I got him home (even ate the first day). For housing he's alone in a 20L with UTH and an overhead heat lamp with a red bulb in it (only used during the cold months). His warm hide stays around 90F and his cold hide is usually in the 70s. The substrate is reptile carpet with paper towels. The paper towels are changed daily, I swap out the reptile carpet every few weeks.

I have been feeding crickets and mealworms, but recently started offering superworms as well (dusting with Repti-Cal and Repti-Vit). After two feedings with the superworms he seems to have stopped eating as much. I had been feeding him every other day (20-25 mealworms, 10-15 crickets, 5-6 supers) and he pretty much ate anything I would give him. He also shed about 8 days ago, no problems with the shedding.

It has only been 5 days since he ate a full meal. It seems like he will take a couple of meal worms every other day or so, but thats it. Should I be worried or do some Leo's go through periods where they eat less like this?

I also have a Tremper Albino (het RAPTOR) female that seems to refuse eating for 3-4 days after shedding. Is this normal?

Thank you,
Mike

None of my geckos eat after shedding. Imagine eating your skin (sounds grose). You are going to be VERY full. The geckos digestive system probably just needs to digest the skin so that everything can start moving again.

it seems like sometimes my leos don't eat for 3-4 days once in awhile. as long as he still keeps a nice plump tail, i wouldnt be worried

I agree.. I always assumed they were full after shedding. It's also common for adults to only eat three-four times a week. And like David said, as long as the tail is nice and fat, you don't need to worry!

I feed my adults every 3rd day (with a bowl of mealies in tanks where they will be appreciated all the time). Even then, some of them don't eat. They are all looking good, though.

After refusing mealworms, he ate 4 superworms today... I guess he has a new favorite food. Can superworms be fed as a staple like mealworms?
