Feeding...

So, for the past few days I've been trying to get my gecko to eat his food, but he seems to want to explore more than he wants to eat his crickets, he also doesn't really seem interested in the ones that are scampering about his cage, and he isn't particuarly the best hunter. Any suggestions how I can get him to eat his meal? He was 84g last week and this week he's 82g.

How long have you had him? If he's new, he needs some time to settle in and may not eat for awhile. The other possibility is to give him a bowl of mealworms and see what he does. He also may eat the crickets if you just leave them in there and then leave him alone.
Good luck

Hi sharon when he was with me he was in a 15qt tub in one og my rack systems and he did great with eating(like a pig). What size tank do you have him in as bigger is sometimes not better and if he is in lets say a 20-gallon then I would try a 10-gallon,also he maybe still getting use to his new surroundings, try what I have told you and if you have any more questions you can email or pm me.

At the moment I have him in a 20g. He was doing pretty good with eating for a while, but lately he hasn't seem very interested >>. And I've had him for a little over a month now? *looks at Daidra* I did put a couple of crickets in and left them in and I don't see them anymore, so either they're hiding or he ate them.

if you don't see the crickets then he ate them and when I had in in the 15qt like he's been his whole life he ate the crickets left and right, also how are you heating his cage? What it the Temp on the warm side and cool side and do you have alot of hides as you do have him in a big cage and he was use to a smaller one, also what size crickets are you feeding as he ate large crickets with me.

If he is not eating you could try to feed him slush. Slush is when you put like crickets mealies or anything else into a blender and blend it together. Last night i gave my girls slush it had water, a pear, and crickets in there and the girls love it and the good part is they get hungry after eating that and they eat.

Hope I helped!

The temp on the warm side is a little low now that I check it, being 89, I'll turn the thermostat up a bit more, he usually end up sleeping in his moist hide which is in the middle of the tank. As for the low side, it's 77 at the moment. I usually feed him larger crickets and have three hides in there, and use paper substrate for the bottom.
