so guys, iv not had this problem before and wanted some thoughts.

one of my 7yr old females has been hiding out in her shed box 24/7 for the last two weeks and shes not eating. every time i open it up shes curled up and freezing cold, so iv been taking her out and putting her in her warm hide. She stays ther for a few mins but then goes straight back in.
well tonight iv confiscated the shed box as she not shedding or due to, in an attempt to get her out of it. iv just left the lid in as a extra cave for her to use.

do you think this is the right move? or have any ideas or similar experiences?
im also wondering if maybe shes going into brumation early due to the change in the weather and drop in temps out side. She is rather on the larger size :p so if she loses some weight it defo wont hurt lol.

I try not to micro-manage my animals and let them regulate themselves for the most part. She could have some sort of illness, I suppose, in which case, removing the humid hide isn't going to treat the root cause. Have you double checked the temperatures in the enclosure and on the floor to ensure it's not too warm for her in there?

I'd start monitoring her weight and make sure she isn't losing a ton, but other than that, I say let her hang out where she wants to hang out...

floor temp on the warm side is 89f and cool side is 70f. it colder in the shed box. when i got up this morning shes a sleep in the warm hide, but i guess your right maybe i should put the shed box back. my only fear was that she was going to make her self sick by staying in there and getting too cold.

If the cool side is 70 F, I think she'll be fine.

I suppose something else to consider would be that she likes the cool hide style better than the warm hide, but if she just started this behavior and no cage changes have been made recently, that doesn't seem likely.

nope theres been no changes atall, this behaviour is new. she would go in there around shedding time but not for long periods like this. ill see how she goes and if she is still being weird next week ill pop her down to the vets for a check up :)

My male pictus spends a lot of his night time in the shed box, I don't know why though. I think he just likes the moss :)

My male spends a lot of time in his shed box as well. He comes out and stares at me when he wants food and poops just fine so I don't worry about it lol. The girl spends more time in the warm hide.
