We have a female giant ( 1.5 yrs old) that doesn't seem to like any of our males. She was ovulating and we put her in with our mack snow and she spent a week running from him and "screaming" ( that little bark thing they do) whenever he came near the hide that she was in. We doubled checked to make sure that she really was ovulating and she was and we decided to just try one of our othr males ( another albino giant) and she didn't seem to like him any better. The breeder that we bought her from said that she was proven. Is it normal for a female to act this way? Should I try her with another male or just give up on her? She lives in a 55 gal with 3 other females and she behaves fine with them. Also yes I am possitive she is a she ( the vet said so at her last check up):) . Thanks

I think you should leave het alone for about a week and reintroduce the male back to her and just stand back because she might be shy.

Thanks for the advice. I will give it a try. She just doesn't seem to like any of our males. I will try and be patient with her.

Some females are just down right mean when it comes to breeding time. We have a couple that can only breed with certain males because they bully the others. It could also be that she didn't feel it was the right time. Just wait a while and try again.

I put her back in her tank and she is back to her happy fat little self. The next time she is ovulating I thought i would try putting the male in with her in her tank. I know I have read that it is better to put the female in with the male but she just went nuts for a week with the first male and 4 days with the second male. She wouldn't eat and wouldn't stop that screaming thing she does.OIf it doesn't work out the next time I have decided that she can just stay a little bachlorett and not breed.

I have had Tremper Albinos/Giants that were ovulating but would not breed in the past. They may have be "hot females", which seem to "grow" out of it over time. The only thing I cannot explain is the fact they were ovulating, when this happened, as most people seem to think they just mature later.:main_huh:

One was a 90g. female "het Aptor", who would "beat up", and scare the heck out of my 123 gram Aptor, when I tried to put them together. She was just mean!:main_laugh:

Too funny!!! My husband made the same statement!!! Maharette isn't mean at all so I am not sure that she could be classified as a "hot female". She is 94 grams and she has a very laid back personality. She has been housed with another female and did fine. You put a male in there and she goes all warped on us. She does this high pitched bark thing and runs around like something nuts. We took and had the vet take a look and she said that she was definatly an ovulating female. My husband has made a few other comments on her orientation also but we won't even go there!

She didn't act mean with the 2 different males that we tried her with. She would just do her noise thing and run around. She would run to a hide and if he came near it she would run to another corner of the tank. She is 1.5 years old but this would be her first year of breeding. The person that we bought her from had thought that she was a male and had kept her in with 4 other females and could not get eggs so he sold "him" because he was sterile. We thought he/she was female so we took her to a local guy that used to breed geckos and he said that we had a female....then the vet said the same thing.

Just give her time...? lol. We have a female that is the same way. She acts like she wants to breed, but when the male gets ready to breed her, she turns around and bites the crap out of him!
