Fertile but no embryo?

I've had an egg cooking for 48 days as of today, and it's definitely fertile. The only thing I'm worried about is not seeing the embryo. I'm using a white light, it candles red, I'm incubating at 83, but I can't see an embryo yet. I'm thinking it may be at the bottom of the egg, but I don't know.... has anyone had this happen before and with successful hatches? Is it anything to worry about? Thanks.

I've been able to see a dark area on all my good eggs. I had some that candled fertile at first, but died before the embryo formed. Those are the only ones where I didn't see anything. I hope yours are fine. My good ones hatched out in 45-47 days at 83/84.

I'm really sorry for the triple post, but I checked it. The light didn't go through the other side. My white light needs batteries, so I used a regular, yellow bulb flashlight. Is this good?

They're from a female that's a Rainwater Albino, but the father a Hypo Tangerine Carrot Tail. My candling flashlight isn't working at the moment, so I can't see veining at the moment, but it is red inside.

If it looked cloudy, like there's a thick translucent fluid inside, then the embryos may have died. You'll just have to wait and see. If it has incubation medium stuck on it that can make it harder to candle too.

I don't know about cloudy, but I can check tomorrow. It has Eco-Earth stuck all around it. I'll try to post a picture in the morning.

I do too, she only laid two clutches, one egg each, and this is the only one that has candled fertile out of both. Thanks!

I'm using that as my female's egg laying substrate. From what I described, do you think that it may be alive? Or will we know after I candle it again tomorrow? I tried again with a brighter regular flashlight, and there's a little spot that the light can't go through. Is that the possible embryo? Also, about how big is an egg before it hatches? It's been growing, that I know...

I think if you are seeing red then it is good, do you seen veins?? I usually don't see a very dark spot/shadow of the embryo until it's close to hatching and the egg candles mostly white apart from the shadow.

Since you need to use a regular flashlight, try putting some foil on the top of it and poke a small hole in the foil so that you have a smaller beam of light :)

I can't really see much of anything right now, the Eco-Earth blocks most of the view. I'm getting more batteries tomorrow, so I can try to take a picture and show it to you, though. Thanks for the idea, I'll try it!

I candled it again with new batteries, and here's a crude drawing of what I saw. Note: This is the egg in question, but last month-

The shadow had more of a bend to it in the middle, inward to the right.
I colored it with photobucket. The red is the glow, and the grey is the shadow. Is this the baby Leo?

This is the one that's been incubating for 49 days, not the infertile on =) lol. I'm incubating for 83, how much longer will it take?

I'm a novice, but here my $0.02: The eggs I had incubating at 82-85 were hatched on day 49. Just days before they hatched I candled them and only saw a smidge of red glow, otherwise it was completely blacked out. I also think I felt one of them move inside ~ that was cool. At first I thought the eggs were slipping in my hand as they were stuck together, and I thought they were breaking apart.

I bet yours should hatch soon :)

Okay, so just having almost half of the egg blocked out means that there's a baby leopard gecko there? Thanks Fanner, I'll keep an eye out on it^^.
