I have 2 leos that we adopted about 1 year ago. They are ~5yrs. Have not had any problems until this last week. The smaller of the two is biting at the others legs, neck etc. I had to do something tonight so put a piece of cardboard between them. They are in a 30 gallon tank and each has a hide. Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on with them?

Are you 100% positive they are both females? It seems to me that one might be a male...tail, body, and neck biting are signs of breeding activity...try to post a picture of both vents so we can let you know for sure

Reptiles are not social by nature. They don't "like" living with each other. Most simply tolerate it at best. Its very possible one or the other is ovulating, many females become testy when they ovulate, or they just got sick of living together. IMO, leopard geckos are best maintained singly. As far as what to do, a 30 gallon tank divided in two is perfectly fine for keeping two adults seperately, just be sure to provide the needs of each gecko on each side of the cage(heat source, humid hide, warm hide, food and water dishes) and monitor your temperatures to be sure all is well.

Yea post a pic of the vents, there is a good chance one of your she's is a he. How long have they been living together? Chances are you may have had a male and female living together for years and just didnt notice any mating behavior until now. I have seen pictures of females that look kinda bulgey but do not have pores i have also seen very pale pores and not large bulges on proven males. While sexing is "easy" there are plenty of cases of mistaken identity because every gecko is different.
