A couple of weeks ago after feeding, one of my leos (the younger of the two) snipped like a dog at the older one. They're both female. The tank is set up 22L, with plenty of roaming space, climbing spots, two different humid hides, two separate hiding spots with uth. The temps are fine. They're healthy and eat good. I've seen them lay on each other. They're usually well mannered besides the younger is a little more hyper. They're less than a year apart, but have only been togther for nine months.

Well comes yesterday. I was away for a day, and had the lights set up as usually. I noticed that there were scratches and small abrasions on the older one. So I doctored the scratches, and all is well there hopefully. I just used a little soap then put neosporin lightly on them. The younger showed no signs of cuts or scratches.

I separated them as soon as I noticed. This seems very abnormal since I've seen them be nice with each other. I had my spare set up and put the younger in it- a prison with essientials compared to the shared tank. And she went kinda wild. She ran around like crazy, jumping at the glass trying to get out. She did something that I've never thought a leo could do. Runs across the tank, a 10G, runs up the hide rock and leaps. She didn't come close, but she was about half way up the glass. She calmed down though and seems fine today.

Also the tank they shared had been in the same arrangement for about 6-7 months.

What do you ladies/gentlemen think? I'm pretty sure the scratches were from fighting or whatever because I don't believe she could have fallen to cause them. How long should I wait for reintroduction? Should I set up the tank different? It's very spacious with the things they can climb and get to, and I've seen both of them in every area so it's not like one is scared to go to a certain side.

And they're definitely females.

Definitely get them separated asap. Whether they are housed together for 7 months or 7 days they can get aggressive towards each other fast and start to show signs that they are trying to get their territory. Also laying on each other doesn't mean that they are friendly towards each other either...this could be a sign of dominance to. I had two females in the same tank for a little while as well and one morning I woke up to find that one had dropped her tail...dont let that happen to you. Get them their own separate tanks...having them in a big tank doesn't always mean that they will stay away from each other if they are fighting or something since they have room.

Fighting isn't normal.

If one is bigger than the other I don't recomend reintroduction. Are they fed all at once or is food left in a bowl? it may be that they are fighting over space, food, or just don't get along. All leopard geckos are diferent and just because they are both females dosn't mean they will get along. what is the size of the tank?

I have to agree, if they are deff. females and they arent getting along, odds are they wont, so separating them is the best for the both of them, you dont want one or both to get hurt.

Assumed Guilty?

Should I never reintroduce them? Even after a different setup?

THERE ARE Better ways of introducing them.............I have many twosomes sharing condos.
And I know most will say Separate them.
Its easier and sometimes necessary.
But even so I find some get along better with a companion.
First off........don't introduce them in a strange place to both.
I find it works best without problems(that being a battle) if the
more aggressive one is put into the home of the less aggressive.
In actual tests I've done it appears the more aggressive
may feel he's being accepted. Sure you get tail waving
and even rattling sometime....but usually from one.
Curiosity and tasting is then good signs but you must be able to devote
some time to observe................
Note that I find they get along more times if you DO NOT
put a humid hide for each. Sharing is the ticket to getting along.
After 3 days of getting along they will be sleeping in the same
hide.......................Note: keep a spray water bottle close just in case they would fight. The biggest concern I find is the food. You need to
spend time feeding each at different ends of their home.
Keep a feeder bowl also...........Questions..PM me. I have
very good results with it...take care. HJ
