These are my very first leopard gecko eggs I have ever raised and hatched into leopard geckos. I am very excited as to watch them grow for the first time. The pink one unfortunately was starting to rot (color changed and was really starting to smell) so I ended up assisting in opening the egg myself. I have nearly reached the 24 hour point and she? is walking around fine on her own and doesnt seem to have any development problems. I know they are suppose to come out of the eggs themselves thats why I dont have high hopes and am slightly nervous. I have done my research and basically as long as she is staying active I should just continue to monitor the behavior. Any other assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have 9 more eggs at the moment so i know now to wait no matter what but once again any assistance would be great. Any recommendations for food??

They're adorable!

It's just my opinion since I have NO experience in breeding leos, but I think that as long as you knew the egg probably wouldn't have made it without help, maybe it was ok to have opened it for her? Did you completely open it or just make a cut in the egg and let her get out the rest of the way? Just curious.

Did the pictures upload for you because I'm having a difficult time viewing them myself for some reason. And I completely opened the egg carefully and it was still in its yolk and it was able to mainly free herself. I assisted with a cue tip but left as much on her and let her be in her new enclosure. She still is doing well and is basically at her 24 hour point. Fingers crossed.

Yup I can see them. Weird that you can't see them yourself, but I see a normal looking one and an albino looking one (just guesses since I'm no expert on morphs either lol).

She looks pretty healthy to me for being a premature born, does she have an functioning problems (walking funny for example)? Those I've read are common in premies, and can usually mean bad.
But like I said she looks healthy from the picture, no deformities lol. And she's already a day old; best of luck on her she's a cutey :)

She walks normal and sometimes even runs. The normal is def a bit more lively but I can't complain for having to hatch her myself. I believe she is a tangerine enigma. Only time will tell. I'm real new to this myself too.

I guess we'll see?

Also, I find it difficult to believe the egg was rotting if the gecko inside was alive? That part confuses me.

Agreed. Rotting indicates bad smell, baby inside dead and it rotting. The shell won't rot... it may grow mold and look bad, but won't rot. The inside is what rots. I have a couple of eggs that may possibly be infertile and have been growing mold for a week now. Until they start to stink though, they are staying put... just in case.

Sorry everyone like I said im new to this and I wrongly assumed it was rotted due to the mold. I know I was in the wrong opening the egg. She is doing really well and is lively so we will see what occurs. I know the chance of her being a strong healthy gecko aren't good but it was my first two eggs and I thought the one was rotted. She's basically at the 48 hour mark so I will just continue to monitor her.

I don't know if there is a right or a wrong. You do what you feel is right at the time. I have heard of hatchlings not making out - just not strong enough, and those that maybe should have been left alone. I just assist hatched an egg, and I too am concerned at it did not absorb the egg sack and so tiny and thin!! Best of luck to you and your little one.

For some reason I am also unable to see any photos in the original post?
Also you might want to be wary about how you say things, that "no sh*t" comment could come off as rude.

This post is 3 years old which is probably why the pictures aren't showing now.
