first ever eggs

posted this this at kingsnake then found this forum . Ok , didnt really expect this but got my first gecko eggs today.i went to feed my geckos tonight and the female came out and was eating right off the bat ,she seemed kinda hungry , not normal for her to come right out like that,she was hiding . next i opened up the moist container i had to check on the moisture and ran my fingers thru the sand and what do you know eggs.I didnt have a incubator so i had to make one . big tub with lid, water and aquarium heater, i put the eggs in a shoe box size container with some white aquarium rock and sand mixxed , moist . hopfully i can pull this off, thats all i had. any suggestions appreciated

That's a nice supprise!! :D

Sand is not a good substrate for leo eggs, it dries out too fast.
You need some sort of moss or perlite (any pet store has it for cheap).
Also, if the eggs are fertile, make sure you dont turn them.

switched out for peat moss today. thanks for that tip . im still unsure if i turned the eggs, i wasnt thinking about eggs when i was checking the moisture if the hide container. i do beleive she must have layed the eggs with in the last day , would that be bad still if the eggs got turned that early? any way, i guess ill have to be looking for this in the future.

Well if they get returned to the up position quick they might be ok. Mark the top of the egg with a marker that way you will no if the get bumped while you have them in the incubator.

I read in a book that turning within the first two weeks is okay but after that there may be damage to the fetus. I say keep them and see what happens :main_yes:
