First Time Gecko and Pet Owner

Hi All,

We just bought our Gecko, "Gordon" yesterday. Technically it belongs to my boys who are 8,6, and 3 but I have a feeling my wife and I will be the ones who take care of her. The boys named her, but I don't think they are familiar with "Greed is Good" yet.

Anyway, can't wait to learn and share with all of you. It's 109 degrees in Los Angeles today so I am doing all I can to cool down the tank for the new guy. Just added a $25 regulator for the heating pad so it can go down to low...we saw the tank reached 108 inside before we bought Gordon so we had to fix it first. My wife just dropped a couple of ice cubes in the tank to cool it down from 88 degrees on the cool side just now. Sorry, too much info too soon?

We'll try to give Gordon a full week of adjustmnent before we start to play with him.

Any advice, responses, or just a hello would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same issue with my heating pad going to high even with the rheostat, I just layer reptile carpet below the paper towels to cool it down, each layer brigs it down 2 degrees.

Thank you. Do you use a light for the tank or just use natural light?

Welcome to GF.

I would rather it be 109...in the IE right now its 112 at my house :(. I would not use any lights for her. Natural light will be plenty of light for her (they are nocturnal so they don't need any lights).

Thanks. Just called my wife and had her take it away. It's crazy...we're not pet people, but I suddenly find myself attached to something I've had for less than 24 hours, and couldn't care less about me. I thought it needed the light for vitamin d.

FYI, it's even 90 degrees at the beach.
