My beautiful Witch Hazel past away this evening. She was 9 years old, and had been bullied by another Crestie. I separated the two girls and Witch Hazel didn't get better. I started "force" feeding her, and she was responsive... but then went into a bad shed. I bathed her, and used shed ease- and she stopped responding to food. In fact if I tricked her into eating it yesterday- she would shake her head and fling it out.... this evening when I got home from work she was limp and lethargic. I tried again with liquids and food. She moved a little, and I let her rest... she pasted away. :(
This is the first gecko to die on me, all my others are chunky and happy.... I feel just awful. I am now shortening the time between weigh days. I feel that would have been my only indicator to have done something sooner. I just feel horrid... I wanted to vent to the gecko-community a moment. She was such a sweet girl........... 035.JPG

Im so sorry for your loss :(. I remember when i lost my first Gecko Thesus last month. I was VERY upset and i had cried a lot. And i felt the same, I should have taken my gecko to a vet as soon as possible. And its from this that you learn don't wait for some thing to happen. How do you think Hazel died? Could she have possibly carried a Parasite or Virus like mine did? And don't pity your lizard, She passed in her sleep. Mine had a Horrible death. Vomitting, Suffocation, Liver Failure. It was horrible. Once again I'm very very sorry for your loss and the GT community is here for you!

Thank you for yor support. To answer the above question, no. She didn't have a virus or a parasite. I spoke again with her previous owner and it turns out she may have been anywhere from 8 to 12 years old.... she was the second owner and I was the third. So time marches on, you can't stop it. It just wasn't expected. :(

Very sorry to hear about your loss. My thoughts are with you. I wanted to like your original post but instead I'll just say she does indeed look like she was a VERY Sweet girl.

Keep your chin up! remember to breathe! and do not forget when there is death there is life so now you have room for another one to spoil and the knowledge that you gained from Witch Hazel to pass to another!

Dont worry, If she died in her sleep resting then she got the best death out there. She lived a great life along with a great owner so its not like you should feel horrible and regretful that she didnt live a happy life. Once again, Real sorry for your loss. Keep us posted about your other geckos too! I saw your site, You have tons :)
