I was thinking about going to home depot and getting some tile. I don't know too much about tiles; they have ceramic and porcelien. I am not sure if these two conduct heat for the uth. does anyone know which would be better if at all? I was also thinkink about buying a set of Playdoe- the stuff parents hate to buy for their children. Does anyone know of anyone doing this or does anyone think this would be a bad idea?

My thought is that the ceramic would have better heat transfer, while porcelien would most likely reflect heat.

I'm not sure what your question is with the Play-Doe, but I don't believe that it would be good to use for a gecko enclosure.

I don't think playdo will work. It gets hard and crumbly when it dries. Tile, paper towel or repticarpet are the best bet - IMO.

I did, however, see some "shelf liner" at walmart. It is non-stick and kind of like a rubbery mat. It is 12" wide and can be cut to length. Does anyone know it can be used? Anyone ever tried it?

I have ceramic tile on the bottom of my 20 long. Looks good and is easy to clean. NOt bad for $4.

We tried the shelf liner thing for a little while. It worked great, just wash it off and its good to go. Not to mention, it looks better than paper towels. In the long run its cheaper than paper towels. But we decided it was too much of a pain in the butt to keep cutting the pieces to fit. If you have a smaller collection it is more manageable I guess. But paper towels work just fine IMO.

Thanks, Matt. It would be for my 20L tank. I have repti-carpet in it now but thinking the liner would be easier to clean. I agree, paper towels for the tubs in my rack, it's easier & cheaper!

The porcelain tiles tend to be very smooth and the geckos slide around on them. I use ceramic tile with a bit of texture. I go to Home Depot and find the cheapest tiles in the sizes I want. If you don't have a tile cutter it can be a little challenging to find tiles that fit right but you can usually cobble something together that covers most of the tank floor.

I got the tile that looks like sandstone or something. It's not shiny, so the geckos can get a foothold easily and I think it kind of looks more like "natural" baked clay. I had to use a friends tile cutter to take a bit off of it, but it looks really great!
