What in the world can I use thats cheap, large enough, heavy enough, cant be escaped by worms, and cant be flipped over by my leos?

Where do you guys buy your dishes?

I currently use those little plastic dishes you get salad dressings and ketchup and stuff in and they get spilled all of the time.

I use the mini terracotta planter saucers that are glazed. I get them at Home Depot or Lowes. Sometimes you can find them on sale. They're heavy with a short enough edge for the gecko, but they can't escape. Unless you have a gecko that KICKS them out. (yeah, there always has to be one in the bunch!!) And they clean up & sanitize real well.

I use the kritterz ceramic bowls. The only escapees are when a few of my geckos play in their bowls and throw around the mealworms. They'r a little bit more than other options you may find. They're about 2.95 each. Sometimes they're on sale for 1.95. I'm not sure if they're still available but there were food bowls for sale in the classified section on this site.

You could use the tomato sauce lids from the glass containers. Or other tops and lids. Alot of them are short enough for geckos, and the worms cant escape!

I think I paid $1.59 for mine at Home Depot. I've seen them for 99 cents on sale. How do the Lee's dishes work for you? That is a good price.

1.98 each is still high. I can get the little Lee's plastic curved dishes for 1.05 each in bulk

might be high..but those are HIGH QUALITY dishes, im telling you..if you really want to solve all problems (might be a little expensive for 20 geckos) go with soap dishes ;) haha

Try restaurant supply websites or ebay for ceramic remekins (sp?). you can order in bulk for very cheap. I have learned though that the plastic ones are better because they are extremely disposable.

I have a few small glass ashtrays that I got from a dollar store. The sides are high and too slippery for them to get a grip on ~ I also use peanutbutter jar lids. The generic red covered brand seem to have a higher lip on them.

thanks larry. I bought 72 very similar melamine ramekins today on ebay for 32.50 shipped (that's 42 cents each). Can't beat that deal. The light plastic ramekins get flipped every day and it drives me nuts. Peanut butter lids are alright, but they manage to use the threads to crawl up the sides and out.

That is a really good deal!

I also use the Lee's plastic mealworm dishes. I get them for $1 each plus shipping. The nice thing about them is that the upper half is detachable, so I take it off for hatchlings so the sides are very low and they see and access the mealies very easily. ;)

i was going to use those... but these ended up being cheaper. I just hope they cant flip them. The Lee's ones have a wider base and I KNOW those cant be flipped.
