I am soon to get a gecko as you might now xD...and my mom says it is better in the family room...because it will get more love and more feeding and less bullying than if it was in your room...and I was like no...I would always play and feed it when I'm reading and chillin in my room...and if your worried about my brothers bullying my Leo, that would be less likely in my room...
So what do you guys think is safer/better?!?

Uhhh... as long as you feed it in your room, ect it would be better because more people walking by may stress your leo out.

I keep all mine in the living room and IMO they get more attention there because most people spend more time there than a bedroom.

I keep my leos in our living room, and they are doing fine.

Actually, I probably agree with your mom. In the living room, she will be more likely to help keep an eye on them during those times when you are not home and your brothers are, and make it less likely for them to be mistreated. I am not saying that your brothers would purposefully hurt your gecko . . . but if they are anything like some of the children I have taken care of, they love to wrestle and play rough and throw things, and try things out. And if they are anything like my siblings, they won't want you to tell them what they can and can't do. Having an extra pair of eyes helping you to watch out for them is a good thing.

If you wanted to have it in your bedroom while you were reading or something like that, then when he becomes friendly, you can probably just carry him in there and hold him for a while. One of my leos will sit on my shoulder for an hour at a time.

Our are all in our bedroom. I own and operate a daycare and I don't think that my babies would get much sleep with all the kids running around the tanks. For me, I just find it more enjoyable to have them in there. I have red bulbs in our ceiling light ( its all about the reptiles comfort in our house, lol)and I can lay in bed and watch them. I enjoy them being in there.

I have my three in my bedroom. There, my brother, cusins, and such won't bother them if I shut the door and have my fan on low for air circulation. I also like laying in bed at night, reading, and have them sitting on my chest, relaxing and enjoying the warmth.

I keep mine in my bedroom, my house gets quite loud at times and they tend to get quite stressed when theres too much noise (probably because they're babies). My recommendation is to keep him in the bedroom where he can get used to just you and maybe when they're older put him in the living room - that is if you are getting a baby one.

Trust me they're addictive!! - I've got 3 in the space of the last 2 months - although the last is because it was being mistreated as some of you may know and only got him yesterday :D

As the mom of 2 boys who are 5 & 7 here's what we worked out--

The leos were in the livingroom until we had a renovation downstairs. Then we had to make a decision about where to relocate them. We agreed AS A FAMILY that we would have a trial period in the boys' room. Their room is usually a pig sty, mine field whatever you want to call it. One of the deals was the floor had to be clear for easy access for feeding/water changes & cleaning & checking the tanks. The other deal was no more throwing balls or any toys around the room because of the danger of breaking a tank. There was no 3 strikes on this one. They also have to inform me prior to taking them out of the tank because of their ages.

The room may not always be clean, but the leos are still in there & doing very well. Come up with a pros & cons list for your mom. Sit down & talk to her about it. Maybe she will agree to a trial period too.

I agree with mom, but it's really up to you, I have no idea what your living room is like compared to your room.. We keep all of our adults in the living room and they are all used to constant noise, and it's much more enjoyable to be able to see them all of the time (we only use our bedroom for sleeping - we're NEVER in there otherwise) so it worked out better for us. If you actually spend a lot of time in your room, then the geckos may be better off in your room :)

And as someone else said, babies can't be around constant noise like adults can.. We tried housing some babies out here in the living room and they didn't really like it too much!
