i dont really know where to put this... since i dont know what it is, or where it came from/what it came out of. today we opened the cage to find chunks of like... that jello-y stuff you feed crickets to gut load them.

we dont use that. for our cricket, or our geckos.... so how that would magicly get into the cage... i have no idea, since.. no one else touches the racks.

possibility #1, it was the water crystals we used, completely saturated.
however... the piles werent IN the water, and were actually on the other side of the cage, that is not kept very damp.

possibility #2. somehow... it came out of the gecko? its the first clutch for one of our super hypo het albino females, and she laid one really jello-y, squishy egg. and... thats it. these chunks are odd, and not at all poop-shaped [love my descriptions?]

it literally looks and feels like if you were to stick a fork in jello, or those chunks of gut loading cricket food stuff. theyre white.. and yellowy white. and huge.. wet, chunky bits.

i would take a picture, but my camera batteries died. and i would draw a picture, but its late and im lazy.

maybe im on crack, and that very well might be the case...

Ok, in my experience with cresteds...I incubate in vermiculite. When the eggs hatch I usually reuse the deli cup (vermiculite included). I have noticed that the excess moisture from inside the egg that seeps into the vermiculite will turn into a jello like substance...nearly identical to cricket water crystals.

Now, how this would translate to how you found your jello jiggler (HA, sorry, couldn't help myself), I have no idea, but I just figured the phenomenon was worth mentioning, since it happens every time an egg hatches.

However, I don't know if this is something isolated to a reation of the egg fluid and vermiculite, or if this happens in other substrates.

Maybe an egg went bad and leaked in the nesting box and the leo dragged the jello out on the floor of the cage? Totally off the top of my head, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Hope that helps.

i was totallY WONDERING where my crack stash went to, serves me right for leaving it on top of the racks haha.

i have to admit, the only thing i didnt do was taste it to make sure it wasnt actually jello. i can probably dig it out of the trash and try it still...

and that would have to be the biggest spermage ive ever seen in my life. our raptor male must be packing alot more then i thought he was...

haha, very cute responses, thanks everyone. i ended up finding the same jello-looking thing in with the roaches, so i think it was infact just a water logged crystal that probably got dropped into the cage off the egg crate. HA! i really am a crack head. hahaha

All I can think of is maybe your female laid an egg and stepped on it and squirted the yolk (Or whatever it is) out of the egg and it has started to harden. Did you happen to find a squished egg shell anywhere?

no squished egg. and even if it was hardened yolk, it wouldnt.. look like clear jello, that usually looks like.. crusty yellow poo or something haha.
