My crickets in one tank are laying eggs in the lay box. It's kind of funny because crickets haven't been laying eggs in a number of other places I've tried to get them to lay eggs. Every day I open the lay box, chase a bunch of pinheads around with a shot glass and dump them into my "small crickets" container. I wish they'd reproduce a little faster because my bearded dragon is eating me out of house and home.

Congratulations on getting your crickets to lay eggs! I hate chasing around baby crickets... or just crickets in general. Hehe. I don't know how you have the patience to catch them all for their own container!

Have you tried maybe switching your beardy off crickets so that something else is his main staple besides his veggies and he only gets them once every so often?

what would you recommend? She only gets crickets 3 times a week and I expect the total (currently about 6 dozen per week) to go down if she brumates

she gets 2 dozen at a feeding? wow, what a hoss.
mealies or superworms could be substituted for crickets i would think.

If you can stomach keeping/breeding roaches, they would be a nice alternative. Less smelly too! Supers would work as well.

I have heard varying opinions about feeding mealies to beardies, but most of what I've read has suggested not to do it.

I got some roaches from Jeanne last month (hissing cockroaches) and I wasn't happy with them. Some managed to get out of my exoterra cages (my son found one on the floor and luckily thought it was a beetle) and others hid under the tiles. Roaches don't bother me but my family has been more than tolerant of the reptiles and bugs and this is too much for them (I didn't tell them about the roaches till they were gone).

It doesn't seem to me that superworms would be much of a savings over crickets if I'm buying the crickets in bulk.
