Toni was down to 8 kg and now weighs a much healthier 15!!! From March to May we've made quite a bit of progress. My question is all he wants to eat is waxies, I have been letting him have 2-3 a day and I know they aren't the healthiest but, he won't eat mealies.. they just sit and sit in his cage and the crix are rarely touched, even when we remove everything from his cage. Any ideas?

you now have a big problem! If you continue giving him waxies he will die of fatty liver disease or of malnutrition from not having the rite proteins and vitamins found in a stable diet. I would suggest not feeding him waxies and if he looses a few grams before starting to heat meal worms again then at least he live longer.

I would agree with Oscar to just not offer wax worms anymore. Eventually he'll get hungry and eat the mealworms or crickets.

Just curious how you reached this opinion on wax worms?
Internet source? Vet? Personal testing? ....would your opinion differ
if you found out the wax worms had gut-load? .....Just my opinion but I disagree with cutting off the wax worms at this stage of weight gain back.....I feel it would be safer for the gecko to be offered both meal / wax with a reduction of wax worms over a period of time as the weight gets more......meaning it will need more food and will probable eat the wax worms and meal worms because it will be stronger at that time with fat built up in the tail. Also try gut loading your meal worms with a piece of fresh pineapple skin. (Best but it will give you some fruit flies in the house) ( not the pineapple use orange skins)......
I feed a lot of wax worms but I gut load them, even though everything you read will say they won't eat after adult stage.... I never could figure out how you tell when they are adults so I experimented....they also keep longer too..... Take care. / HJ

Okay, I do gut load my waxies and I also sprinkle them with calcium prior to feeding him. If this is not good I will certainly stop. I was just worried sick about the lil guy going from 13 to 8 and tail thinning and then we found waxies and he ate, and ate well. I will reduce his wax intake. How many per week should I give if any. Is there anything healthier besides crix and mealies, or should I only give those and hope he decides to find them more favorable?
