OK...SO...I'm getting really JEALOUS of all the people on here making cool backgrounds, huts, hides, etc...You guys are awesome! But, my question is, how do you know what's safe to use or not? I see paints being used, glues, etc...I think the only thing I've ever made and stuck into one of my gecko tanks, was a tombstone from foam. The idea's I've seen on here are CRAZY! So what do you look for, like "child safe", "non-toxic" things? For glues, and sealants? (sp)...I've used a variety of stuff for crafts and they smell strong! Anyway great job to those of you creating your own ornaments. I love seeing those pictures!

I guess the general consensus is that if you let them air out until there is NO smell at all, then it'll be safe for the geckos. Usually about a week.

Anything non-toxic is the way to go. If your building out of styrofoam like I am, the grouting step that can either be covered with paint or not, is so that the foam gets hardened and sealed. However once the paint is set if your painting it, you need to seal it with non-toxic sealant so that it has water repelancy.
Usually anything water based is a good bet as well. And as Khrysty mentioned as well... if your noticing that whatever your using is really strong smelling, work in an well ventilated area, and let it air out for a couple of days.
Other then that.... use common sense about it, if you think something might hurt or harm your gecko/ other pet, don't get it.

In the reefing hobby people just avoid anti-mold stuff, so you might want to stay away from that. Aside from that most things should be safe as long as they're properly cured.

It helps a lot that geckos generally don't eat the things you put in their cage, I used to have gerbils and those things chewed through absolutely anything including PVC piping! For putting things together I use a hot glue gun, it dries fast and turns into plastic when i dries.

Cool well thanks guys! I enjoy doing a lot of crafts, but for some reason it didnt really come to me, to make things to put into my tanks. But I will totally start now, cause there's so many cool ideas on here.
