Next summer Ill be deployed tell the fall time. My parents are going to take care of my geckos while I am gone. I was wondering when I get back will I be able to breed my leopard geckos that fall? Or will they have to wait tell the next spring? Do they have an internal clock for breeding, or can I condition them somehow to breed that fall? Thanks

Most leopard geckos ovulate between about Feb. and August. Some geckos ovulate at a different time and sometime breeders are successful in "fooling" the geckos into thinking it's ovulation time in the fall by manipulating the lighting and temperatures. I don't think this is so easy to do. My advice would be to come back in the fall and spend the few months before January getting your geckos into the best shape you can. Then you can put them together in Jan. and have a good breeding season.

I am realizing that that is probably the best idea. I'll have a lot of leopard geckos ready to breed when I get back, I'm really excited! Just a long ways away.

Yeah, it's hard to wait but worth it. I have a juvenile leachie that won't be ready to breed probably until the year after next.

I have a trio of tangerines that should be ready that spring, but thats about when I head out. I'll have fun buying geckos while I'm gone, I really want to get some nice red stripes this next summer.
