Put down a scrunched up towel on the floor with a heat mat underneath it and a hide inside it in the middle of the room, and some mealworms (or other food) in a dish. Maybe even a little light. They will seek the warmth in the night, check the hide in the morning as it will move around more at night.

I thought I lost one of my babies once, it turned out he had squeezed inside an ornament in his viv, I didn't think anything could get in there!

i do this

1. get a tall container
2. make a ramp a gecko can crawl up that goes to the top of the container
3. put wax worms in the container
wait for the gecko to crawl up the ramp. it will jump in to get the worms and won't be able to get out. make sure the gecko can't knock the container over once inside

May I ask how it got out of the tank? Do you have things that reach close to the top of the tank?

Look in every nook and cranny in the room, under everything that isn't nailed down. Including loose carpet edges and under rugs. Use a good flashlight, they look for a dark secure hiding place, and warmth if possible. If the room can be isolated, do so immediately to minimize chances of it getting out to roam the entire house. Your chances of finding it are better during the day when they typically aren't as active and ready to bolt if spotted.

I had one of my males escape when we pushed his tub a little too far back one the rack one evening last week. We found him under the couch next to the rack. I would check under all of the furniture in the room, especially along the walls. The gecko is probably looking for a place to feel secure.
On a side note, a couple of years ago, we had one get out of her tank and was missing for 3 1/2 months. We found her on another floor of our house one night sparring with the cat! We scooped her up and renamed her "Miracle"!

i found it! i came home from work and was looking around with the lights off (with a flashlight of course) and she was in the middle of the floor! thank god. and she got out because i had a hide in the bin (all the geckos are house in a rack) and she is so small she can squeeze through the space between the shelf and the bin. i took out that hide and provided a smaller one so she cant climb it.

I had this happen once. I put out a towel hide as described above. After 2 days of no lizard I decided to put baby powder around the walls of my room (leos have a tendency to stay close to structures when they travel as a means of predator avoidance). I noticed the next morning tiny leo footprints in the powder. Later in the day I went to load paper in my printer on the floor and I noticed smeared baby powder on the lid. I opened the lid and the little brat was sat inside of it looking out at my like it was no big deal. Hope you find yours.

Oh and in that experience I learned that my gecko, at the very least, probably did not travel very far from his point of escape (<10 feet).

Wouldve been very scary if other kinds of foot prints appeared... Hahahahahahaha
