Gecko Evacuation Plan

This is way out of left field, but I was wondering if anybody has a plan on how evacuate their reptiles in case of a fire or other emergency. There was a small fire in our apartment building today, and this thought came to our minds. Don't worry, it was taken care of quickly, and all is well. We figured we should be prepared in case anything happens in the future.

If you have a lot of herps: Buy 2 large plastic bins & lids, one, throw all ur females in it. The second 1, buy a lot of small tubaware containers big enough for the animal(keep inside 1 bin so it'll be ready), then put all ur males in each tubaware then all tubawares stacked inside the second bin, GET OUT. If you have only a few geckos same would work, but wouldn't need the large bins. Or if you have 2 leos(like me) or such, the amount of animals, keep that many tubawares big enough 4 each one, & a box with lid near by their cage(s).

Oye!! I don't know, but it is one of my biggest fears! All that flexwatt plugged in 24/7... I try not to think about it!
We not only have the geckos, but snakes, dogs, cats and a skink. (We have fish also, but I know that it would be impossible to get them out if there was a fire.) I don't know how many you have, but you could set aside a plastic container that will hold them all. If there is a fire you could try to toss them in as quickly as possible which would be easier than trying to carry out a heavy aquarium or even worse a rack, yet they would still be contained.

My boyfriends house burnt down 4 weeks ago today, entirely to the ground, honestly there is no way if the blaze is too big to get geckos out.. you need to think of your safety first. Also smoke rises, if it enters the tanks it could severly harm the geckos.. I hate to be a pessimist... but if my house was on fire, and trust me.. I've been thinking a lot about this.. I would have to leave my geckos.. I'm not going to have the piece of mind to think about getting a box.. throwing my geckos in there what if they fight? Then getting out of the house.. I'd have to get the rest of my animals out also, of course those would be first.

I feel like a bad owner, but my safety, my parents, and my dogs and cats safety are a priority over the geckos.

If you are thinking of an evactuation plan, give yourself a 5 min interval.. it took 20 mins for the entire house to be engulfed.

We've said a couple of times.. thank goodness we didn't have a gecko there because it would be another loss. He went downstairs not knowing how bad it would be.. and never got to go back up..

But anyways yes.. Just for reference, I would have a fire box, put all of your important information, copies of your liscences, your insurance papers, and copies of your recipts for the geckos, because unless you have them online, the insurance company will probably not believe you on how much you paid for them.

First off, I don't think you are a bad owner. I agree that human safety comes first. That is something we thought about as well.

Second, I do like your idea of a fire box for the important papers for the geckos especially since we are starting a business. I know a fire or other disaster is something none of us want to think about, but must. Thanks for that idea.

We have pillowcases for the snakes in a box that will hold all the geckos. Beardies go in a second box. This is all providing that my kids are safe and we have time to get them out.
