Gecko frequently looking up at his lid?

It's become more and more frequent, especially today, that our gecko keeps climbing hide after hide to stare straight up through the lid.

This has become more common the tamer he gets, so I wonder if it's him asking to come out? He now reliably climbs up on our hands, as we feed him on a table outside his tank; he seems to associate getting out with positive things.

Today he's been especially antsy, so we took him out to play for about 15 minutes in a safe, enclosed room that was "gecko proofed so he could walk around freely without us spotting him constantly so he wouldn't fall off.

He was also fed. His tank was on the warmer side at 97 under the pad, so I added another paper towel to the area, and actually unplugged the UTH for a while to let it cool down, worried this might have been his reasoning for climbing up on on all the hides. Since then, the temp has gone down to 87, and he's acting exactly the same.

Is this just a gecko thing? Since they are usually so key, I was sure he'd get tuckered out from exploring that long. I guess not, at least not yet?

Yes, it's a gecko thing. Some people call it the "gecko dance". You may want to consider getting a thermostat to keep the temp in the low 90's.
