Gecko In REALLY BAD Shape

Hey guys I found the forum a couple of days ago and tried to post as quick as I could to get advice for my situation. Ive read other threads to figure out that my gecko is in really really bad shape. I got him at ******** on January 23rd and his tail was quite thin but I thought that after a week or so he would fatten up. He started fattening up a tiny bit but recently completely lost all thickness in his tail. He dosen't have any energy and barely responds to anything. He just lays there with his eyes closed looking like hes sleeping all day and night now. I'm taking him to a vet tomorrow hopefully but if its too late I dont want to spend lots of money on getting him better only to have him not fully back to normal. Heres a picture of him; what do you think the problem is/do you think he'll make it? His name is Mr. Jingles btw.

I'm sorry, but I don't have a good predicted outcome for that gecko. My advise (take it or not) is to return that gecko to the store for a refund and buy a healthy gecko from a reputable breeder, and not a store that specializes in pet food and supplies. If they wo on't take it back after all this time, it needs to see a vet ASAP, although I doubt there is much that can be done to help this poor thing.

That's got to be the smallest tail I've ever seen on a leo. :(

I'm very sorry for your loss. As was mentioned before, often geckos from the pet store are not in good shape. You tried your best to take care of him and it wasn't your fault that he passed away. I also got my first gecko at a big chain store and it also didn't make it.
Here are some suggestions for what to do now:

--if you want you can bury Mr. Jingles (if it's frozen out where you are, you can put him in the freezer and bury him in the spring)
--if you don't want to bury him, you can put him in the trash (I know that sounds awful, but different people have different feelings about what to do with a pet's body)
--if you want, you could take him to a vet for an autopsy (usually called a necroscopy) to find out what was wrong with him, but this is not necessary
--you sound like someone who really wants a gecko to take care of. Clean his cage thoroughly, and when you're ready, if you want, let us know where you live and someone here may be able to recommend a reputable breeder or a local reptile show where you can buy a healthy gecko and have a better experience.

Listen I work at a pets_mart so I can give you some advice. Try and return it, even though it is past the 14 day guarentee. You may have to argue but make sure you do. If that doesnt work then ask for the number to corprate. Tell them that your situation and that you have pictures to prove the condition of the gecko when you bought it. They will give you your money back, even if it takes awhile. I know it will be hard but you have to take the gecko with you when you go, and dont let them keep it if they dont give you your money back at the store.

If you argue it hard enough, they will refund it one way or another. Pets_mart does anything to keep a customer. Make sure you mention the pictures though, not to the store but to corprate.

I'm sorry for the loss... as Katelyn said I would try for the refund but don't get your hopes up.. if they offer an exchange I wouldn't bother. :( I hope that this incident doesn't put you off of keeping Leo's.

she'll get the refund maybe not from the main store but from the company if she makes a big enough deal about it. I'm telling you ******** is hurting from the economy, if they think they will lose a customer they will do whatever the can to keep you coming back.

I am sorry for your loss. It is so aweful when someones first experience with a leo is a bad one. Don't give up. There are alot of really good breeders on here when you are ready to try again. Best wishes.

Thank you for all the support everyone I'm burying Mr jingles tomorrow because it went from snowing on Monday to being hot today (Saturday). I refuse to buy anything from ******** anymore because any company that sells animals that are sick/diseased and definitely knows it isn't getting my money. I've lost pets of over 15 years and continued to adopt others so I'll still be looking at getting a new leo somewhat soon. Thanks again for all the support everyone :)
