Fortunately, my Mom only lives about 2-3 miles away. I'm a little OCD about things and tend too worry to much when I'm gone :main_rolleyes: , so I have her come over and check on them if Shawn and I are gone longer than 24 hours and call me with updates. She's over several times a day taking care of the dogs if they're not with us anyway. Good thing she's grown quite fond of the leos. She's really started to like them and gets really excited about new hatchlings. It's kinda cool. She's still a little squeamish about the mealies, though. She has to pick them out with tweezers. :main_laugh: God love her! :D

It's amazing how people feel about their geckos, so much like any other family pet. Everyone has shared how they "worry" about them. Who would have thought?! Somewhere someone said their expressive faces might just be fooling us, thus encouraging us to anthropromorphize. (I've always liked that word). But, I think that once our neighbors can get beyond the reptile stigma, they'll understand there's much more to them that just being "cool."

so, if I do leave my Leo for 10-11 days on vacation with one of those water bottle bowls and stocked up on meal worms in a deep bowl, the consensus is that I don't have to feel "all that guilty"?

:D Well, over the last year as I've "gotten to know" my leos, it's become harder and harder to leave them for even a 3-day weekend. I'm sure they'd be okay for a week, but I do worry much more now. Problems with shedding could be problem while I'm away, their moist hide could dry up, my thermostat could fail, the power could go out, their furniture might accidentally fall on top of them and squish them. I don't know - more than 1 week without someone checking in seems like too long, based on the responses to this thread.

Does anyone board their geckos during vacations?

I've only found 1 or 2 "reptile hotels" on the Internet. Have you found one in your area? The one I recall was in the UK, so I was under the impression that they were rare.

I bet I could make friends with the local specialty reptile pet shop owner to keep them for a small fee.

Unfortunately no local specialty herp pet shops, but I do believe I found a herp vet in my area that boards... I have yet to contact them.
