This is a word problem, see if you can figure out the answer:
Johnny johnson is 17 years old, and he buys a pair of leopard geckos for $300. He breeds them shortly after and has 6 geckos hatch. He sells them for $25 each, which is 16.7% of the price for the pair he purchased. Now the question is who gets screwed worst, Johnny, or the breeder who now has to lower his prices?:main_huh:

To the MOD, this is a totally fictional story, although it is happening in the real world, this "mathematical word problem" is dirrected at noone in particular, and if there is a johnny johnson on this forum, first off awsome name second, sorry this post is not about you, just having fun.

I would think that the breeder that has to lower his prices would because he has been investing in some high end geckos and then he sells some to someone and they start selling them dirt cheap so he has basicly lost any profit he could of made because he has to lower his prices so much to compete with the other breeder.

thats just my take on it, if someone else has a different opinion on this please share.

I think it's not about the loser - it's about the winner: the person who gets a great animal at a lower cost, and a gecko who hopefully finds a great home and an attentive and knowledgable owner.

someone has to lose (breeder) someone has to win (buyer of basement breeder)
all in all this is why the market is what it is and why i believe there should be permits to breed. Less animals will be made that will be dumped at low prices or dumped period , just my 2 cents

I chose E. It shouldn't be about the money. It should be about the geckos.

*Not trying to be Cliche* But a living thing shouldn't be classified by "retail value."
Even though lowering prices allows people who may not be able to afford to give it the life it deserves, a chance to adopt it which is scary.
But at the same time also opens opportunities for loving familys who are just as good as everyone else but just cant afford the higher adoption fees for something a little different.

So really in the end, 50% win and 50% lose.

And I just totally confused myself.

But really its when the geckos lose, thats the scary thought.

Everyone else can recover.

The looser is the gecko that Johnny sold to Tommy for $25. Tommys' parents never for a minute thought that Tommy would hold interest in the gecko but what the heck, it's only $25. Tommys' parents bought him a new DSi for $200 for his birthday and now Tommy doesn't know the gecko exists. You know how the story ends...
