Hi Everyone

I have had a sick gecko and now she is all better , I need some advice about her friend as Ive been neglecting him a little bit as my focus has been her.

So firstly, hes still pretty big but he has stopped eating for about two months. I think this is his habit in winter. Should I be concerned or just go with it and start worrying when spring comes ? I have been keeping the temperature in his tank warm with heat pads and lights but he usually sits in the cooler areas.

Second, He has issues shedding. The skin stays on his feet. I took him to the vet a few months ago and vet said that is a sign of calcium deficiency. I dosed him a bit of calcium. The shedding now gets stuck on his toes more than his feet..is that a positive sign? If theres skin on the tips can I leave it or should I take it off? He lost one toe from previous owner...dont want him to lose more... He has a moist box and I try to let him sit in warm water a bit..hes hates it though. I never see him in his moist box. Pet shop shed ease stray doesnt seem to help him. what else can I do?

Thirdly, his has been with his friend for years now. When she got sick , i separated them. Shes thriving . Hes definitely the most dominant and aggressive one (but in a subtle way, hes never harmed her, think its just body language). I dont want to put them back together... as shes doing well. Would it help him to have a new friend? What do I look for so he doesnt "subtly bully" her (assuming female is better)? Or best to just leave him?

Take the retained shed off the toe tips. You can also spray the feet briefly and then use your fingernails to get it off. Some geckos, in my experience, have trouble shedding even if properly supplemented. Make sure the gecko is getting calcium consistently as well as vitamin D3, without which the calcium can't really be used (many of us dust feeders every other feeding with calcium and vitamins so we don't overdose them). I highly recommend keeping them separately since the female has had problems, the male has had shedding problems and there are breeding/mating issues with male and females kept together.

Thank you:)

So you think he's ok on his own? I shouldn't get him another friend? Should I be concerned about him not eating?

Geckos are generally solitary and don't need company. Keep offering food. If he's not losing weight, he's probably fine. If he is losing weight and you can't get him to eat, take him to a reptile vet.
