I know geckos can make noises cause i'll handle mine and they'll make a couple noises if they're trying too hard to climb around in my hands. But last I heard a noise come from the tank that sounded like a mouse. It actually woke me up from a soft sleep. I checked the floor for a mouse but nothing and made sure they weren't engaging in any extra cirricular activities- they were completely separated on each end of the tank.

So does your geckos make noises?

It's funny that you ask this because just last night, I was searching the forums for threads about gecko noises. I hear chirps sometimes, like really high-pitched, short noises, coming from the cages. LOL, it's kind of funny. Geckos actually do make all sorts of different noises, from little grunts to the chirping sounds, popping sounds, and so on and so forth. Whenever I am trying to check the underside of our geckos (to try to see what sex they are), they always make litle grunting noises, lol, it's cute.

Here's a few threads that I found last night when I was searching:
Do your geckos talk?
chirping leos?

My girl is quite vocal as well. There are always strange little sounds coming from her tank. It really freaked me out for the first week, as I had thought that they only vocalized when angry or hurt, I was constantly running back and forth to the tank to check on her. :main_laugh:

Since then I've gotten used to her strange outbursts for the most part... She was out and about a few days ago and insisted on climbing onto my shoulder, when she started to try to go down my back I placed my hand in her way. She let out the weirdest combination of sounds... it was like she was cussing me out in gecko-talk. I swear she seemed mad at me for the rest of the day after that...

Other than the usual "alien scream" from hatchlings (not my hatchlings though) I have never heard a peep from my leos.

I would like to hear their sounds too :main_yes:

The 2 I have now are still pretty new to my home, but they are not the least affraid of me. Still, I dont like to freak them out if I can avoid it.
They are not at the point yet where they want to climb on my hand.

Do you have to provoke them to get these sounds, or do they also do it for no apparent reason? From you guys posts, sounds like they can wake you up in the middle of the night!! you dont even have to be anywhere near them.

I wanna learn the gecko language! lol

Wouldnt it be cool if someone made a recording of all the gecko sounds and exactly what they were doing right before the made them?? :main_yes:

I do believe I would pay $$ for that!!

Mine grunt and/or make this crunchy-popping sound when I turn them over to look at their bellies. The crunchy sound is weird because I hear it but I cannot figure out if it is coming from their mouths or bodies. Do you guys know what I am talking about?

Sorta like a popping elbow sound.

I've had mine for weeks, not ver long, but a few days ago I decided to try to handle it. I first put my hand in there and he walked up on it, no prob. a few days later, I stuck my hand in there and he SCREAMED. it scared me.

Yeah that would freak me out too.

Sounds like he isnt quite acclimated yet. It can take several weeks.
Just because he got on your hand once does not mean he's tame yet! :)

Sometimes, just a quick movement or sound can set them off.

Believe it or not, it helps to talk to them in a soothing tone. They do respond to that. My family thinks I'm crazy, but sometimes I can talk my leos out of their hiding caves.

I tend to do fairly well with most animals I guess because of my calm and quiet, and gentle nature :D

I've heard all sort of sounds from my leos. There is a bird-like chirping; and then a growling like "Grrrr...eeeggg" sound when they're not happy (when I pick them up and hold them but they want to go elsewhere); and also a high pitched screech, kinda like "beeeep~~~", this one is so loud that I can hear it in another room. One of my gecko does it very often, usually when he twist his body like stretching. Would be great if I could record these noises someday...
