Gecko Not Eating

I'm posting for my son who is out of town for 2 1/2 more weeks. I've been taking care of his geckos and one is not eating, looks like he is losing weight (tail not as thick as I remembered). Anything I can try before making a vet appointment? I've been feeding them meal worms.

Thanks

outta my freakin mind
Hi, Mike. If you could give us a few details we can help more. Is this a breeding male? What are his temperatures currently on the hot side and the cool side? What are you currently offering for food? What is his current weight?

I know that you may not be able to answer all of the questions but any extra info would help us to help you. :main_yes:

Now the short list of concerns about males not eating.

If he is near a female gecko, he may sense or smell if she is ovulating. Males can tend to have a one track mind. Sometimes they lose interest in food if they know there is a girl around.

The warm side floor of the tank needs to be around 90 degrees. If it isn't he may lose his appetite. Lastly, he may just not be interested in the food items. You can try many different types to see if he is interested in another.

Jeremy, thanks. I will try to answer some of the questions tonight. I've been giving them meal worms. I don't have anything else small enough for them to eat. Will they eat food that is dead? I could cut up some superworms or give him a very small roach.

I had a feeling there was an issue with the dead food. I will try some of the real small ones tonight. Thanks!

I hope it works out so he doesn't hate his father for letting his gecko die.:D

Lol, it'll probably be alright. It doesn't sound like anything serious. :)
