after how many days or months can leopard gecko live without eating? I just bought my new male leopard gecko, he ate 2 dubia nymph according the previous owner before I got him, it will be 3 weeks from now. i was worried but he acts normal, sleeping at day time and very active at night time. he even climb branches, his weight was also normal so does the tail size. thank you very much for your response.

they can last ages. months.

However obviously its best for them eat lol.
Just leave a bowl of mealworms in the enclosure overnight, count how many there is before putting them in and then count them like 24 hours later.

Also, keep a record of his weight, its not too much of a problem if his weight isnt dropping at all.

You might want to check temps also. And if you want to see him eat, try wax worms to get the feeding response stimulated.

If you want to try and see him eat hows about hand feeding him worms individually insted of using a feeding dish where the prey might not have enough room to move and get his attention? My leo won't touch a dish but the minute a super is dropped in front of his face it's gone. And silk and wax worms aren't those like gecko twinkies?

Obviously some one's been reading my posts and parroting it back as their own info...

Everthing is fine in moderation.
But anyway, if you use wax worms to get the your leo eating, only use a few at first. they are recommended every 2 weeks... if that.

Recommended every 2 weeks by whom? Once a month for treats for most leos....

If you have an emaciated leo that has been off feed for some time and A.Needs weight desperately and B. won't go for anything else THEN and only THEN do you try to tempt with A wax worm. Once he eats ONE wax worm you offer supers or mealies as you don't want him to get addicted to waxies. Waxies are to be used in only the most extreme feeding circumstances to get a leo back on feed then as a rare treat.

I am not going to bicker with you. If you don't like what I said, that is fine.

I never ever had a problem with my gecko refusing to eat after having on or two or however many wax worms. But Like I said, It is good in moderation. If you feed him one or two once a month or 2 times a month, he will be fine. That will not kill him, or make him obese, but if you are feeding him more are see him getting bigger, either cut back on the amount, or stop feeding them. But I alternated. I would give a wax worm to my male and as soon as he ate the wax worm I put a mealie in front of him and he ate it. And from then he started eating regularly. You could also try other food items. Try crickets or another type of worm. Good luck!

I'm not trying to bicker with you, Im just yet again correcting one of your many mis-informations to the niave public that might accidentally take what you say as gospel.

It is not mis-information! I have had my gecko over a year! And I have talked to breeders that have suggested what I suggested! You have only had your current leopard gecko for 2 weeks!! I don't understand why you are calling my TRUE information false.
What I suggested is not false and not bad. It is what many breeders have said. So please stop doing this.

Ah, here we go again. if the two of you cannot stop with the bickering between yourselves, we are going to have a real problem. I am recommending you guys use the "Ignore" feature, this is exactly when it comes in handy.

Not gonna join in on the bickering but Waxxies are treats and are addicting. If you've never delt with a addicted gecko then you have no idea how troublesome it can be(trust me!) Silk worms are ok but alot more money and for what little reward? I dont even bother. It sounds like he's just settling in. Is he your first? Is your set up right? Ie temps? Substarte? hides? Have you checked for impaction? Have you tried all kinds a feeders? Some of my guys will NOT touch this or that and only eat ONE kinda bug. its annoying but just how they are. If he's been raised on Dubias try them, most mine adore them;D haha I do agree with the hand feeding(i hand feed all 26 of my geckos!) if your unsure then thats always a great way. Or offer a cricket with its hide leg, front legs(on the same side) and the antie ripped off. It'll kick around but cant move much. this ALWAYS gets a geckos attention even if there not hungry;D If you got him set up right I wouldnt worry. One of mine(Tremper enigma girl) refused any kinda food for a month straight lost a whole gram, had me worried sick but her weight stayed. He'll eat when he's good and hungry.

Waxxies once every two weeks? Once a month? I've spoken to alot of breeders too(even some on here:main_thumbsup:) and they say as long as there only a treat then its fine. My guys get waxxies atleast once a week AFTER they've eaten there good stuff(so they dont spoil there supper LOL). Everyone minus the 2 rescues who were fed them only(addicted) so I do know that they can be addicted if fed EVERY meal. My guys havent become addicted. It depends on size too. If were talking a baby/juvie then one or two waxxies is plenty but a adult can eat 4 easy. Comes down to size and age on who much and often. In my EXPERIENCE I dont ever recommened giving a baby under 30 grams a waxxie as there stomachs are small and there more likely to refuse food. I've had leos over 4 years and this is what i'm comfortable with.

It's a choice to whether you want to feed them as treats, but they aren't recommended, in any sense of the word. The only thing that is recommended about wax worms is to feed them few and far between.

Mine too My new little guy would not touch any of the dishes I used even the one the breeder gave to me when I got him to she was using to feed him with! So after a few days I used a pair of 10" tongs and tried holding a mealie in front of his face and BINGO took it right out of tongs I was sooo suprised :main_thumbsup: I said "wooo now that was cool" So from then on I used tongs to hold worms in front of his hide or his face and it doesnt take him long to run out and gobble it up!:main_cool3:

I feed at night or early morning when he's most active:main_thumbsup:

totally agree, anyone can reccomend how much to feed, but each gecko has its own requirements and could be different from another gecko. :)

Chill guys. no point arguing over waxworms, because the topic has been around since forever and still hasnt had an end to it.
