Gecko Rescue?

My local pet store has a few leopard geckos. I hadn't been in for awhile, and when I did make it in, I was fairly shocked at their appearance. Two of the females had lost SIGNIFICANT weight in their tails and had distended torsos. In addition to significant amounts of stuck shed on both of them, one was COVERED in scabs and scars.

I went back in a few days later with my friend Khrysty, planning to talk the owner into giving them to us as rescues. Luckily, it went well. Before we even brought up taking them off her hands, she asked if we would like to care for them. At the end of the day I took home a beautiful female pair of Patternless Rainwater Albinos, named Sabuhi (41G) and Isra (49G, a significant portion of which is eggs).

I took them home on 5/9/10. Got all their stuck shed off, gave them some olive oil for any impaction issues from the Calci-Sand they were on, and let them settle in. They both ended up being gravid. Now...I'm wondering exactly what to do. Sabuhi is doing just fine, she laid her first egg a few days ago, and has an appetite.

Isra on the other hand, looks like she's carrying 3-4 eggs, and has barely eaten a thing. She's on paper towel and I've upped my temps alittle bit for her. She's got a moist hide and a calcium dish, as well as constant access to well dusted dubia nymphs. I'm considering a slurry diet, and warm baths. Is there anything else, husbandry-wise, that I should be doing?

It is not unusual for a gravid female to go off food for a while, especially if she is close to laying. I wouldn't be worried yet, if she still refuses food after laying then you may have a problem.

As for going off food, I'm aware gravid females have a tendency to do that. I'm only concerned because of the dropped weight.

If she continues to loose weight and doesnt lay any eggs, you may want to have her checked out by a vet. It could be egg binding.

1. You didn't tell me you'd named them. Loving the names :)
2. When I looked at her, it looked like Sabuhi was carrying two eggs. Is there another in there?
3. Isra does worry me a bit (she's the one with the awkwardly shaped abdomen, yeah?). I think a vet trip might be in order. If you want, I can check around our area for a herp vet. I think I still have the number of a good one here, somewhere.

Yes, Sabuhi does is carrying another egg.

As for Isra, her odd shaped abdomen seems to be from the eggs. She is carrying at least three.

If she doesn't improve, I will need the number of that vet. If push comes to shove, I can always just put it on my credit card.

Oook, i'll have to have a look through my stuff. I priced it when i took in rescues from that couple in Rockford. Shouldn't be more than about a hundred, but I'll look again.
