Gecko trying to escape

Hey guys,

Well I recently moved back to college and my gecko did fine in the car kept him out of sunlight in a cardboard box.

Its been almost a week and I've noticed he has been much more active at night crawling on things trying the get to the top of the tank.. I had to take one of his hides out because it allowed him to reach the screen when he climbed it. I do take him out and handle him so I dont think it has anything to do with that. My concern is he seems so occupied with getting out that he has not eaten since I've been back. Tried putting him in a feed box also, no luck.

Also, humidity is at 30% hot side between 95 and 100, cool side between 75 and 80. Any ideas would be great.

He's just trying to figure out what's up with all the changes. Once he gets settled in, he'll eat again.

With that aside, that seems like quite a temp gradient - how big is the tank, out of curiosity?

It's a 15 gallon tank

You should probably bring your hot side down to 88-90. What is the heat source and how are you measuring temp? That behavior is pretty normal when they are adjusting to changes (stress). making the temp changes may reduce the stress. Its nothing to panic about just yet.

I have a probe on each end of the tanks. Could I add some paper towels under the tile? I do not own a stat yet. It will be a week tomorrow so hopefully he settles soon.

That might help a little but what is your heat source?

I use an uth

I'd say mid-90's is OK as a high for the hot side; you do want to make sure you have a large enough UTH for the tank though, so it's not just heating one small area.

When we switched all our cages around like two of our males kept trying to get out. They actually succeeded a couple of times, but thank the gods our children don't like to touch them yet. (lol) He's probably just trying to investigate the new surroundings. I hope he starts eating soon.

Thank you for all the suggestions and help.. as for the size of the uth, I purchased one that is for a 15 gallon tank, so I believe it is the right size.
