Hi

I want a gecko that is active during the day that I can watch, and can handle. From my understanding day geckos are too fragile and too fast. ANy other ideas? Thanks n advance.:main_laugh:

i cant think of any diurnal geckos other than day geckos.

also, if you do find a gecko that is active during the day, odds are they are gong to be pretty fast and flighty. that is what is required to survive being active during the day.

A lot of leopard geckos, once they get comfortable, develop a random sleep/wake cycle. They're up multiple times of day and night and fully handleable any time they're awake. Technically, they're nocturnal, but one of mine is always roaming around when I feel like holding one lol

Most of mine have adjusted to this behavior just like house cats. When I come over to the enclosers they come out to greet me.

Lygodactylus. L. williamsi are an absolute riot to watch. They should not be handled due to their tiny size, but they aren't fragile like day geckos, nor nearly as skittish. (They're actually tremendously bold and fearless).

Geckos that can be handled are uncommon. L. williamsi can be easily tamed, but manhandling is out of the question--they're just so tiny, they would be injured easily. They will come to you and climb onto your hands for food, though. (They'll do almost anything for food). It took mine only a month of settling in to decide that people moving outside the tank could be safely ignored, and that food arrives on the feeding platform. lol

many consider the williamsi as a day gecko just not a phelsuma species.

phelsuma are interesting species, I myself have a p.kochi, and there are alot of phelsuma that are not that hard to take care of. They however are not a handling gecko.

But I like others, my leos do come out durring the day and if I come in the room they are out and about.

But some of the species which are diurnal are not cheap species. There are species like knobtails which on the cheaper scope tend to run several hundred dollars. If you are looking to invest less then that, I would look into the night life of the party geckos
