Genetics question.

Well I noticed that after my Zuko's last shed he's showing some carrot tailing (by some I mean a little bit lol) . Before his shed he didn't have this, or at least not enough that it was noticeable. Now it's showing more.

I don't know a lot about genetics so I was wondering, is there a chance the color will continue to spread or will it probably not? He was ID'd as a normal morph but since he was from a pet store, goodness knows that his parents are.

Here is a picture of him, I'll post another one tomorrow when I feed him! The Orange is on the base of his tail, he's also got a little orange going on the backs of his legs. I'll get a nice close up so you can see it better. I know these two current shots aren't great as to where you can see it.

I'm asking because I have a great love of carrot tails so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. :3
I freaked out when I saw the orange peaking out. <3

I knew about the 15-20% lol. I guess I didn't word this right.

I thought about it after reading what you said. I started this mostly because I wasn't actually sure how the carrot tailing forms. I wasn't sure if it was something that grows as they get older or if they are born with it right off. I was hoping it grew with age lol. I'm guessing that's not the case?

I think most are born with about what they'll have and don't gain a whole lot more than they start out with. As he grows I think a little bit more may peek out from around his dark bands but you'll haveta wait and see :)

That would be so awesome. I hope he gets a little more, it'd be nice. <3
He's got some orange on his legs too but its all so light it doesn't show up in the pictures. Its so fun watching them change as they grow. <3

Thanks for the input.
(And on a side note he's doing FANTASTIC. I just got done feeding him about 10-11 mealies and he has about that much every 2-3 days. Gonna order him some phoenix worms soon.)

I dont see any carrot tail :(

It's only a small bit of orange at the tail base but it's bright. It's hardly seen in the photos. I really need to get better ones. Carrot tail was really the wrong term for this lol. I didn't know what else to really call it at this point though.

As I said this is really more of a how it forms kinda deal and since he showed more after the shed, if it would continue to grow lol.

Sometimes they can develop more carrot tail as they grow, other times what they hatch out with is how its going to stay. When you have a banded gecko the bands can cover the orange when they are young and slowly reveal itself as the bands fade away. Here is a few progression pics of one of my male SHTCT "Sonny" Its hard to see in the first pic he has orange in the tail. 8/9/12 @ 11 grams (w/flash).

Next is Sonny on 9/8/12 @ 29g with a bit more orange, now easier to see as the bands faded (w/flash not a great pic)

Last is today 10/25/12 @ 51g (w/flash) somewhere around 40%-50% carrot tail. Hes not the best example of a SHTCT but hes awesome IMO

So there is a chance! Even if it's not enough to be considered a true carrot tail, it's still awesome. It's really neat seeing the progression your lovely gecko shows. I hope Zuko does that as well lol.

Thanks for sharing the neat pictures. :3

This was the best I could get, I was happily surprised that he walked into my hand. He didn't like getting off my hand and into the tub lol.

But you see it right? Just above the first black band on his tail. If it was there before his shed it wasn't nearly as bright as its gotten now.

Just an update on this, he shed a day or two ago and here's what happened! I'm pretty excited, it's really neat seeing his patterns change as I do my best to take a picture after ever shed, so by the time he grows up I'll have a neat photo album. <3

This first picture is from the 11th of this month.
