I;m getting an AFT thats 5 months old, they keep it on bark but I would like to use reptile carpet or tile like I do for my Leos, this that OK? Also do they pick one spot for their bathroom like the leos?
Thanks

I would definitely not keep it on Tile, AFTs require a bit of humidity. Also Repti-Bark is a terrible substrate for any type of Herp. I would definitely reconsider who you buy your AFT from there are tons of great breeders on here to help you out.

I defently wouldnt reccomend bark, it contains large pieces that if ingested could kill the gecko. I have my AFT on coco fiber but paper towels of newspaper will work..

Thanks for the replies! Do they have the same toilet habits like a leo?

Yes they will poop in a specific spot and usually they will all use the same spot.

The reason some people use bark is some older books recomend it for humidity, but don't use it.

The one I'm getting is being fed crickets and I want to feed it meal worms. Is it hard to get them to change, and how long can they go with out eating? I feed my leos every day, some eat a few each day and some don't but they get to choose, I'm hoping that is OK for the AFT also? The guy told me it had to have crickets for a staple food, that it would not do well on mealies but I know some breeders only feed meal worms. I am worried about changing it over but I don't like crickets! I'm supposed to get it Thursday so any advice would be great!
Thanks again

Most AFT eat only crix. I have 2 AFT's, the male loves super worms and crix. The female loves pretty much just crix. I have gotten her to eat meal worms but not consistently. The fat reserves will determine how long they can go without food. First give it some time to get used to it's new home, so I would start with crix until you have established a good feeding regimen with the AFT. With healthy fat reserves the gecko could probably go 1-2 months without food. But I would go that far to try and change it's food preference. Start with 1-2 weeks without feeding and then try mealies. If that doesn't work then maybe push it to 3 weeks. If he doesn't eat after that initial 1-2 weeks give in and feed some crix. Then start over with the 3 weeks. If you can't get him to change on 3 weeks I would call it quites and just feed crix.

I don't know if this will work but that's how I would go about it IF I tried to change their diet.
