Is ghost just a fancy term for a gecko that has less color than normal? Or is it an actually gene? I believe it to just be a gecko with less than normal color, but just wanted to clear it up.
IMO atleast in ball pythons Ghost looks to be a seperate gene.
I believe in ball pythons a ghost when it sheds has a shed with absolutely no pattern to it all.
And after seeing urban geckos ghost african fat tail it makes me think its a seperate gene there also.
Young ghosts look totally different in my breeding stock than my hypos- the same for Mack Snow Ghost and Mack Hypos.
Hypos tend to have much more yellow colouration than ghosts, and most of my adult and subadult ghosts show a light olive-greenish colouration..
Personally, I am confident that Ghosts are not the same as Hypos..
This is a very interesting topic because I was always under the impression that a Mack Snow Hypo is the same as a Mack Snow Ghost.. Could you show comparison pics John?
Ok got some pics. I even tossed in a really cool pic. PS: it isn't gecko related
This is Tom My Male Ghost from Steve
And This is Kelly a Hypo Mack Snow that Kelli ( HISS) originally hatched in 07. This is a pic I took of her a week or so ago. Used flash because of the smokey sky.
Ok Bonus pic This amazing young fox was hit by a car is now getting therepy to use its front legs again. He was found not far from where I live.
I was going to try for a new pic of her but she wasn't coroperating. In person she is darker then he is. The pic I have of her I had to use flash because of alot of smoke in the sky lately. The pic of him was natural light no flash.
The pic of the fox I took last night at the Vet Hospital. I wanted to reach out and pet him but only the vets are vacinated for rabbies.
Ok I did my own asking. Ghost and Hypo Mack snows are the same. My Male was created using the Ray Hine Dominant Hypo gene. Steve gave me that info. Thanks Steve
This may make it a little more obvious. Try to find the ghosts (all have been incubated at the same °F):
these are from a Raptor x Ray Hine Hypo Ghost pairing. In my opinion the "Hine-Hypo-gene" and the "Hine-Ghost-gene" might be something different. I have seen Hypos from that line that don`t seem to be ghosts at all and I have seen Hypo Ghosts (see the picture above). What I haven`t seen yet is a non-hypo Ghost.
Jess, the difference in John's geckos is one is a ghost and one is a mack ghost, so has the added mack gene.
I wasn't aware that there were two diff lines-hypo and ghost. I was under the impression his hypo line was the "ghost" line, as his hypos if you go to his webisght, have no ct or tang influence. They do look very different than other hypos. There have been a number of ghost crosses and you can definately see the ghost influence. It gives the gecko a washed out look (like it's in shed). Read over the one link I posted here-Johannes theory-she did a lot of work with the hypos aka ghosts. I think it's in the second link.
