7 month ago I bought this male which is one of my fave from Rampant Reptiles. When he arrived I didn't measured him but I weighted him and he was 80g. 2 weeks after he arrived he was hitting 86-89g. The curious thing start happening when I start breeding him I noticed that all my females look small by his side and eventhough I was having a BB that weights almost the same the BB doesn't look that big. Last week I measured him and he is 10 1/2 inches. Since my new scale is arriving next week I can't weight him at momment but he looks bigger and more bulky than before. Here is my question, A giant needs to have the giant gene or came from a giant line to be called a giant? or Some geckos can turn in to a Giant?

Thanks in advanced for your answers

A Giant has to have the dominant Giant gene to be a Giant. You can still hatch Normals or other non giant morphs from a giant line. Is yours full grown? I am hanging toward the Giant side but get updated weights to be sure.

Yep. One parent has to be a giant. So while you're asking Michelle about the birthday, you can ask her if either parent was a giant. If one parent WAS a giant, then you STILL need to breed the gecko and make giants to really be able to know for sure.

They can't just turn into giants, and geckos that don't carry the giant gene will not make giants.

food for thought

Richard Rojas : Thanks for the info. This means that if RT's first giant was hatched from normals parents this can also happen to others breeders. Or I am wrong?

Possible reasons for giant size:
Acromegaly is a chronic metabolic disorder
in which there is too much growth hormone
and the body tissues gradually enlarge.
It is caused by abnormal production of
growth hormone after the skeleton and
other organs finish growing.

The cause of the increased growth hormone
release is usually a noncancerous
(benign) tumor of the pituitary gland.
The pituitary gland, which is located just
below the brain, controls the production
and release of several different hormones,
including growth hormone.

This may also be in the other direction as:
The pituitary dwarf has too little growth hormone.

Or IMO, line breedind LARGE to LARGE will most likely
give a very good chance of accomplishing in time.

Take care. Hj

Thanks HJ, Now I remember that you did a lot of research after you hatched your dwarf.

So your saying that the first pair of geckos in existence had to have a giant then, right? Thats the only way there is any truth to your statement.

In reality what is happening is one person branded there large Leo a "Giant" and everyone else followed along with "if it doesn't have my Leo's bloodline it's not a giant". It would be 100% true to say that if you have a "Large" Leo(Same size and weight class as the "Giant" bloodline) and can produce the same size and weight offspring then it should be classified and able to be marketed as a "Giant". Rational thought process needs no further proof of this IMO.
