Awww...it looks like a lovely old school leo...what age is it?
Generally, unless it comes from a known giant line, it's a normal.

You still have a big handsome fella there, say thanks to your aunt!

Not sure of the age she took it in as a rescue the old owners didn't feed it for 6 months and she's been feeding it 20 mealworms a day and boom he's a monster lol he's not overweight either he's just a big healthy boy

Looks like he's a Normal with some stripe influence! Great looking guy, regardless of his age which we don't know :main_yes: Do you have a girl for him, or is he a pet only? :D

I said "circa" because he reminds me of most of the leos I saw then...when I was brand spankin' new to them myself (I got my first in 2001, took me a couple of years to really get one)...he's very handsome, he looks a lot like my Drake.
So I'm not being objective at all. For all I know, he's only 2 years old, I was making a comparison based on my point-of-reference. Sorry.

"Giant" is kind of a branding term that really suggests Tremper. Its like awesome marketing.
Until you know it's lines.... you can't guess yes Giant... HOWEVER, that said... I would like to point out that Steve at geckosetc.com makes some HUGEMOUNGASS Bells... They are of course.. Not "Giants" as we know the term, but they are of an incredible size. It makes me wonder if there might be more than one type of "largeness" gene, much like there are a few types of albinism? Might not be a "GIANT" but you can call him Hugemoungass. ;) He is super hawt tho! Your Aunty really does rock! Congratulations!

I do! I think they should use a new term? Maybe? That encompases all geckos of a categorized size. Because---- they are outside of the norm. They do come in all morphs and in normals too.

It's not just the weight on the giants, but also length. Do you have a measurement on him? I do believe some possibles have made their way to wholesale markets over the years.

He's right at 10 inches and 104 grams

In order to confirm if he is a giant or not, test breeding would tell the tale. You might consider trading him to someone willing to do this with a solid agreement of some sort. I am in this situation right now. A friend's gecko is staying with me to breed her if it's not already too late in the year after quarantine. The gecko could be a giant.

If you put him with another giant, you would not be able to confirm if he's giant or not. It has to be a normal sized gecko. I would suggest a Tremper line, just because there are known giants in those lines. Unless you can confirm he's another line. Super hypo tangerines are fairly compatible with many hets and would produce some nice looking tots. There's some info on giant genetics on Tremper's website and maybe some others too. Gecko's Etc has some nice photos. Check Designer Geckos too, Ray has some gorgeous giants. Look at all the points of reference you can find to help you understand more. With any gecko of unknown history, it's a roll of the dice :)
