Is it normal for a gecko to try and climb the glass at night? I never really noticed but i heard some noise in her cage and she was trying to climb the glass. How normal is this and is there any reason to why she is doing this.

The temperature at night is a relative 75degrees F on the warm side, at night.
She eats about 7-10 mealworms a day.

Yeah, we call it glass dancing. Ours calm down if you handle them for a few minutes then put them back in.

That being said, is it because they get use to coming out of the cage every so often, and if I miss a day here and there they want out for a bit???

I only hold my geckos when I need to, which isnt very often, and my geckos do the same thing.

Hmm, alright so they do this if you hold em every now and again, and they still do this if you dont hold em very often, I think I'll also rule out pretending to swim, and I'm still left wondering the same question haha.

Thanks for the input though, leaves me pondering but not enough to worry too much aboot it.

My guys do it and I take them out however my boyfriends "dances" before she goes to the bathroom. So I think it depends on the Leo haha

If you lived in a house with glass walls wouldnt you try to climb them too? Think about it, they can't see the walls, all they see is whats outside their tank, then they try to walk that way and smack their face into something they can't see, yea i'd be curious and try to climb it too :)

We have several in tanks that try to do it as well, the ones we have in our racks dont do it because they can see the wall. For the ones you have in glass tanks mango is right, they can see out and their natural desire to explore kicks in so they try to go out. Sadly they hit wall but I dont think their brain processes the fact that they arnt moving lol. its only normal for them. If you want them to stop you can put something on all 4 sides so they can not see out. they might be alittle more secure in that as well.

That is very true, never thought of it in that sense, I naturally assumed they seen a reflection in the glass, of themselves or the rock its sitting on, I had an earlier thread asking how smart the average leopard gecko was, its not looking to good for the little buggers.

Thanks

Our tank is wood on 3 sides and the ceiling is wood, 2 slider doors in front. Ours never try and get out unless we keep door open to refresh there air then they are curious and check it out. When we were switching tanks every week and they were in a Tupperware basket they tried climbing the walls, they hated that and tried walking up the walls it was kinda cute i took a video. We have read the little guys feel so much more secure in a wood tank as no predators can look upon them.

I have my geckos in Vision cages (plastic on all but 1 side). 3 out of 7 (2 are juvies in bins) try to climb the glass occasionally. These three are the ones that enjoy handling the most. 2 of the same 3 will walk out willingly onto my hand...the other 1 is still adjusting since I just got him last Saturday, so I don't handle him at the moment. In my opinion, they're just the ones that like to explore more...the brave ones that are so naive about the possibility of predators that they end up being the most outgoing and friendly leopard geckos. lol
