Wanted Opinions from Observation
Being a hobbyist breeder I am thinking about conserving space by considering one Male living with one Female. I wondered if it could be a problem in eating, fighting, or egg production as he gets "used" to her.I have tried a male per three females and observed loss of weight of some females. I'm Looking for advance comments from those that are presently or have done it, before I try it. Thanks. Take care.

I keep my males and females together from Jan. through October. In a few cases, usually with a male that isn't a fanatic about mating and a female that's pretty much of a hermit (stays in her magnet hide nearly all the time) I kept them together all year. I find that even the fanatically mating males lose interest by about July. The reason I separate them is that I like to re-combine them each year and I don't want anyone jumping the gun. I imagine that whether multiple geckos kept together results in one losing weight is more of a factor of the specific hierarchy and personalities, although the more that are together, the greater a chance of unhealthy domination. This year I am retiring one of my breeders who hasn't been very productive and she is going to live with a male who I have never bred. They have "visited" a few times and he hasn't been too aggressive with her. If it works out they'll be year-round companions, at least for the coming year. Right now I have 3 male/female groups: 1.2, 1.1, 1.3. I will be separating them as soon as I sell off some of the babies to have more room.

just from my experience, i had a male and female living together, and the male was thriving, but the female was dying. she was loosing weight, her tail was shrinking, and she had horrible shedding problems. when i separated them she was fine. i think my male stressed her out too much.

Living together/Stressed Female

Thanks Jon, my appreciation for the comments.
With plenty of time to observe, I will be monitoring all weights quite often. .......So did your female ever lay before you separated them? Or after?

I have a male/female housed together and have never had any agression problems.
I bought them from a person that had always kept them together.
I tried seperating them when I learned that they shouldn't be kept together but my female started rubbing her nose on the glass and wouldn't eat and so I moved them both into a 40 gallon breeder tank.
Both are good weights but I hand feed them most of their food.
