Golden Gecko Feeding

It seems like my gecko will only eat Meal Worms and he won't touch crickets at all. I left some crickets in the tank for about an hour for the past 3 days and he would not touch them. Is it alright for him to only eat Meal Worms and veggies? Thanks. :D

I kept golden geckos (Gekko ulikovskii) for quite a while ending a few years back. I'm going to go out a limb and say this gecko is w.c. Given this and the lack of mealworms in their "wild" diet, I'm not sure why this gecko is rejected prey that moves alot more. You can try crix again, but this time with the back legs removed (slower movement, but still active). How long have you had him/her? Cage parameters (temp, humidity, size, etc.)? In any case, you should not be offering veggies to this gecko! They are known to take supplemented fruit as a treat every now and then...

I have a Golden who also prefers meal worms over crix. He does the same thing and will ignore crix comepletlt although ever once in a while he will eat a couple. mealies though, he comes right up and takes from my hand. I use fruit baby foods like banana or apricot to supplement him every once in a while. He licks it right off a spoon. If I put it in a dish he never seems to eat it.

Yeah, I only fed him bananas once..I guess thats a fruit lol (ive had a lot on my mind guess i dont know the diff. between a fruit and veggie) but yeah as of right now I have him in a 20gal with the day temp at about 83 and the night temp at about 75 or so. He has at least 3 hides and uses them all. I have only had him for a little over a week but he has really been warming up to me. He now comes out of his hides when I am doing stuff to the cage (removing leftovers, cleaning water, etc.) and he sits there and just watches me till I leave the room. But yeah he jus watched the crix for a little bit and then went back to hiding..so is it ok to feed him mealworms and no crickets at all? Or should I keep trying to feed him crickets?

A trick might be is to store the circkets in a bin you kept mealworms in previously so they get the " scent" on them.

They are semi frugivorous..Basically the same diet that works for Phelsuma.
