I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in general care and husbandry or health, so I put it here:)

So.... at what age do you think is a good time to retire a male breeder? Or a female breeder? Or do you just go off of the general health or color (as some fade after breeding over time) of the gecko its self?

I have asked this question several times during the past few years and no one ever seems to want to answer it. I retire my breeders when they seem to have decreased significantly in production and/or health. Currently I have 3 females who are "retired". One is nearly 8 years old, was acquired by me when she was 2 1/2 and was never a good breeder. She produced about 4 babies in 2 seasons. I don't even think she ovulates anymore. The second female is about 6 and produced well for me for 2 seasons and then stopped. The third is 4 1/2 and after a stunning first season (20 eggs, 100% hatch rate) by the third season had started to lay her eggs outside the lay box. This season, her fourth, I was able to rescue about 6 of the eggs. The gecko is healthy, the babies were lovely, but I don't want to overproduce this year so she will, at least temporarily, retire.
