I cannot wait till tomorrow.

I am going out to hunt for leos. There is a reptile show in town, so I am going to look at that. Hoping to find a mate for my lonely boy leo at home, who dreams of that special lady leo. I have a girl, but she is too young and he is too big.

I may buy a couple there, but the most exciting part is driving out of town to a reptile rescue, where my neighbor is taking me. She rescued an iguana there and it looks good now. I am thinking about rescuing an unfortunate leo. I have had enough experiences with leos to raise an unfortunate one, and try to lead it to a better, and a little longer life. It may be viscious and won't trust me, but I want to help it. I have a cage set up for it and everything.

I'll tell you how it goes tomorrow.

Have any of you rescued an reptile (does not have to be a leo)? Also tell me about your favorite leos you have at home, or all of them.

Good for you on the rescue part of your plan. I TRIED to save one from a certain big pet store chain and, oh whatever it was Petco. Conditions were not great, and there was a very dark patternless baby there that was near death so i bought it because i wanted to save such a cool looking leo. Nothing i did saved the poor little guy and it ended up dying, it was a shame. So just be careful, even if you try to save a reptile sometimes they are too far gone, that wont keep me from trying but you know what im saying. I think its great and good luck, cant wait to see pics!

I am currently doctoring a tiny Bell Albino which I got from a lady who had no idea what she was doing. She is being treated for anorexia, parasites (2 types) and dehydration. She is doing better though. She will now eat hand fed crickets! That was a huge improvement. But yeah she isnt out of the woods yet. Good luck with your gecko hunting and tell us how it goes! :)

I am back at home earlier than I thought...

The bad news is that the local pet store didn't have any leos, but the breeder will bring them in Monday, and I had reserved three for me to pick out. They are grown and bought from the breeder before, so they will have fat tails and stuff.

So I can't wait till Monday.

After that, we went to the rescue around 11:30. They had only one leo, and more bigger reptiles, like iguanas, so I took the leo. My heart broke for her, and I was shocked and disgusted.

"Mitri"--what they call her, came in a week ago. They said some lady bought her. The lady bought her there first instead of putting her down. She said her son didn't take care of her, and he had a bigger one in the same cage. The bigger one ripped off her leg. She is 4 years old, and is very small and skinny. I am now feeding her waxworms and she had already ate five. She is very active and alert. I am treating her leg, whose blood is drying up with peroxide to disinfect it. I am keeping her in a plastic deli bowl with air holes and a lid, and she is on clean paper towels, so her leg won't get infected. She is a real sweety, but will always be the size of a baby gecko with no meat.

I'm gonna post a pic of the poor thing later on through a hyperlink, so whoever wants to see her can see her.

She is very fortunate in the fact that she seems healthy. She will be on a waxie only diet, so she can get some meat.

She just pooped, and it is normal, like a little lump, not even the possible size of her food. It is kinda normal, but runny. I bet she has parasites. Right now, she is exploring the bowl.

I applaud your intentions but (and no offense meant) you need to do some more research on diet and nutrition before you undertake rescuing Leos or any other reptiles

Waxies will not give that the gecko the nutrients that she needs right now

Make up a batch of Marcia's slurry or get a box of Flukers Rept-A-Aid and feed that to her instead
You can also try a bowl of dusted mealies in with her

Again-I am not trying to be rude but giving her the wrong food isn't going to do her any good

Stay away from wax worms and pinky's with geckos that are ill

Bodon-buying ill geckos from large chain pet stores is not rescuing them
As much as they pull at our heart strings and yes I have also done this in the past-sadly it just encourages them to bring more animals into the store to replace the ones that they do sell

It has been said before-and will probably be said again

We are not helping out the lizards that are being kept in the wrong kind of conditions when we buy them because (for the most part) the stores refuse to change their ways

Also-when adding new animals to your collection-make sure to practice a quarantine period

Internal parasites can come from feeder insects (crickets mostly) as well as other sources and be spread through feces to other geckos and no animal should ever be introduced to another without a Q period

Then we have the dreaded Crypto that will kill your Leos quickly

I have learned the hard way many years ago about not quarantining new animals and it broke my heart

You should always have a completely set-up tank (or all the stuff to throw one together) for any animal to keep it alone that you bring into your home

Again-I do not mean to offend or to be rude but there is much to be leaned about keeping these animals

I know that after 12 years that I am still learning every day

Good Luck with her

I know that waxworms are low in nutrients and it is better to feed her crickets and mealworms. She was just so little that she needs some meat on her bones, but I get what you mean. She does need crickets and mealworms. Tomorrow, I might try supplimented mealworms, when I feed the rest of my geckos. She is full right now.

I had a set-up tank for her, but she is in the see-throught deli bowl, so I can look after her more. She is yearning to walk, and I don't think it is best for her to walk in that tank right now--I feel that she needs to sit.

But I will try to do what you said though.

Again-good luck with her and if she is skin and bones try Marcia's formula or the Rept-A-Aid in addition to the insects that you feed her
Both formulas will put weight on her

It's hard to restrain an animal even when they are injured because 4 legged creatures will walk on 3 legs when one of the legs is injured

If she is not bleeding from the wound-I see no reason to restrict her to a bowl
What size is the container that you currently have her in?
Can she move at all in it?

If she moves and the wound opens and bleeds then she needs to see a vet asap

I understand what you are saying but I don't think that she will over exert herself with the injury and she will have more open air and a better heat gradient with being in a small tank or a tub

BUT
I am not a vet

This is just my opinion from my years of hands on experience and reading the forums and books

My fingers are crossed for her

It is a 6 or 7 inch by 6 or 7 in. bowl. She's just in till her wound heals. It is still doing minor bleeding, but the bleeding is starting to stop.

I am now looking up that formula in another tab. Very interested.

She can walk and has room to run and catch her food.

She just caught a few supplimented crickets. She is very fast on 3 legs, but the bowl helped her.
