I've already had my 'first snake' ( albino tang milk) and I moved and had to rehome her with my cricket guy. I'm going to an expo in NC over valentines day and may want to get another one. I'm picking up some balls to re-sell at home and may convince my snake a phobe fiance to let me get another pretty snake :)

whats a good colubrid for someone whos afraid of snakes? I'd like something easy to warm up to me- however cant have 'classic' kings or Cornsnakes in GA.

Baird's rat snake and the russian rat snake I've heard are very laid back and similar to corns although russians like a lot cooler temps. You could also try a milk or a bull/gopher snake although they milks can be jumpy and bulls/gophers are often hissy and can be very intimidating to someone whose nervous around snakes. You could also try to get a jungle corn or similar corn snake hybrid that would be a loop hole with GA's snake owning laws.

A lot depends on what you want out of it. Specifically, what's the max size you're looking for? Are you looking for something more colorful? Degree of care difficulty? Temprement? All that fun type of stuff.

I'm assuming you're wanting something ez to care for, not very big, good attitude & such. A Hognose snake isn't a bad choice if you want something a little different than most get. Real neat snake, pretty well mannered, extremely ez to care for & stay pretty small. It also doesn't hurt that they look a lot like a rattlesnake ;). Bull Snakes are pretty cool too.

Another few good ones could be one of the garters that does not occur here in Ga., or maybe even a house snake. I have to say the house snake we had was just a perfect candidate for handling. It never so much as looked at me the wrong way. I did not ever get it a mate so I gave it to a buddy of mine, and his kids hold it all the time with no ill effects. I think your best bet though is to really do some research on the ones that all of us suggested and see which one will fit into your home without causing to much of a problem with your fiance.
