What he said. There is a lot of good and specific information in the bearded dragon forum on faunaclassifieds.com. The upshot is that the light recommended above is about the only decent one.

Ditto-also avoid the compact fluorescent lights-there have been recent findings that they impair bearded dragons sight and can actually blind them

Not sure if it is all brands but there was one brand in particular that they did a study on and people were complaining of their dragons having sight problems after being exposed to the light

I have switched all my guys to MVB's. There are a few brands that are good.
The only tube bulbs that work (make sure they are long tubes and not compact) are Repti sun 10%, and Repti glo 8%.
The MVB's are better and last longer. The most affordable one with the best results is the T-Rex (this is what I bought and lll reptile usually has the best price. I just took advantage of there 3 for 99.00 bucks sale) and then the absolute best (very expensive) is the Mega Ray (I have one that is used on rescues with MBD problems. The Powersun will work well to but UVB weakens quicker.
All of the compact bulbs are bad due to causing photo-kerato-conjunctivitis.
They have a really high out put of UVB and if not used exactly like specified and with a bright white bulb next to it, it can cause damage. Most of the time not permanent but damage non the less. There has been cases of permanent damage and death. Usually when the bulb is removed over a week or two the animals eyes go back to normal with minimal damage.

There is a great link to read about UV reports and studies on different brands

Has anyone heard of the "mega ray" bulbs? They are a spot light type of bulb that are supposed to be good, producing a healthy amount of UVB in a more concentrated area? I don't know a lot of the specifics but if you do a search for them you can find their site. It is something like "reptiuv". Just wondering if any of you have experience with these? We are at the 6 moth due-date for new bulbs and were wondering if they are worth the money.

On this thread if you read my post right above yours I posted about them and the site.
The MVB bulbs are awesome!
That is all I use and they last longer and are a better bulb. Go with the T-Rex but they do not put quite as much heat out as you think so buy the higher watt one.

Edgar, your getting a beardie? Welcome to the world of bearded dragons!!

I also suggest either reptiglo 8.0 or reptisun 10.0.

Where are you getting one from?

Just becareful as the names can get confusing. If you are going the tube method for providing UVB.

Good = Reptisun 10.0 or Reptiglo 8.0

Bad = Reptiglo 10.0, any type of compact fluorecents

There are a lot of posts on beardie forums about Reptiglo 10.0 causing eye problems due to i think it said incorrect wave lengths or output or something like that. Anyways, I dont know or understand the details, but A LOT of people say to stay away from it.

But as stated above, if possible try to go teh MVB route as it not only provides heat and light from one source but from my understanding they last longer (replacing every year instead of every 6 months for tube lighting)
