I never thought I'd be posting about a fish.
About 2 or 3 years ago I got a school of red-eyed tetras from someone on craigslist to add to my indoor/outdoor fish pond which already had a school of neon rosy barbs. When the fish came, they included a gold barb and the guy giving them to me said I shouldn't worry because he (the fish) thought he was a tetra. Well, it soon became obvious that he no longer thought he was a tetra, but now thought he was a rosy barb. Pretty soon, the rosy barbs, many of which were bright red, started having gold highlights. I have a whole generation that are a beautiful orangy red. This guy was really beautiful with gold, red and even some green on his sides. Yesterday he was clearly on the way out, probably because of old age and this morning he was dead. So he is now fertilizing my container garden plants and his genes live on in the rosy barb school.
