I got home yesterday afternoon from being at 2 parties. I got home, checked on all my leopard geckos, temps were good. 5 minutes later all the flexwatt stopped working. I spent 6 hours redoing the wiring and connectors and still wouldn't work. I am now about to redo my rack with heat cable.

Well so far so good. I just finished stapling the heat cable and putting the leopards back in the rack. So they are happy now that they are starting to get their normal heat now. They did good overnight. I kept the house at 72 all night. I had to drive 1 1/2 hours to get the heat cable last night. Because it was Sunday all the stores were closed early. My friend Jody Hicks of Leaping Lizards had me meet him at his house to pick it up. He came through for me when I needed him.

John, what kind of heat cable (brand/watt)? And how many times did you have to run it under the tubs to get the right temps? (I am assuming this is on your "dresser rack") I had problems with getting high enough temps with the ZooMed Heat Cable on my rack. I had 2 "runs" under my tubs and it was no where near where I needed it.

I am actually using the ZooMed 25 watt heat cable. I have 2 rows about 1 1/2 inches apart. I have my herpstat set at 89 and it works great for me. Yes its the converted dresser. The temp didn't go down as much as the flexwatt did at night. I got up this morning ant it was at 85. With the flexwatt it used to drop to about 78. I am going to guess you have the 15 watt cable.

Yeah, I have the 15 watt and had 2 rows ~1 1/2" apart (only the top row of the dresser). Can't remember what it stayed at, but it was no where near that. My house is cold in the winter though about 68 degrees.

I now have the 4" flexwatt on a helix and it stays at 89-90 degrees consistently. (My husband is an electrician - he hooked it up & soldered the connections! I wouldn't have done it myself :) ) It seems easier to use the cable.

I hear you there Jason. I have 2 computers that are giving me headaches that I am working on. One of them is a very nasy virus job. But after I get paid for the jobs its time to get more heat cable and expand at leaste 1 shelf ;)

I don't do much with solder so I never used it. Maybe in a year if I find any extra patience I might try that.
