gourds as hides?

is there any reason why i shouldn't use a gourd, cut in half with a hole in it, as a hide for a gecko?

i grew way too many hard-shelled and bushel gourds last year, and they've been drying in the shed since novemeber. no pesticides or chemicals of any kind were used that could leave residue, and the pulp and seeds inside have been removed. a couple of them were cracked and unsuitable for birdhouses or painted decorative gourds, so i thought they might work for the gecko.

thoughts?

A few years ago I bought on ebay a gourd hide that had been stained and decorated. I use it as a dry hide and it is much appreciated by the geckos. I tried to grow bottleneck gourds but the only one that reached a good size had a much thinner shell than the one I bought and was too light to use as a hide. That's the only problem I can see.

okay, thanks! good to know! i planned to use them as dry hides anyway- i figured they'd rot if they got wet. they're corsican hard-shelled gourds, mostly, which means they're maybe a quarter-inch thick- i think they'll stand up to the gecko. he's pretty mellow. if not, they're disposable, as i have many extras in the garage.
